    Supportive Arts Program for Young Adults with (dis)Abilities – Fall 2022 to Spring 2023

    An inclusive, all abilities art and mindfulness workshop for young adults with (dis)abilities 18+

    SUPPORTIVE ARTS is a unique program supported by the Ontario Trillium Foundation, offering arts-based learning opportunities and compelling artistic experiences to individuals with (dis)abilities living in the community. We welcome adults and caregivers from Wellington County and the surrounding areas to our weekly program. Led by ECFTA Arts Educators and Mindfulness Coaches.  The Supportive Arts program has now expanded to 4 sessions per week.

    THE PROGRAM: Join us for a guided 2-hour workshop, specifically designed to support adults of all abilities. Each session, we will embrace diversity and friendship through explorations in art making, movement, mindfulness and music. Every week is as unique as each of our participants!  Supportive Arts is offered free of charge to all participants and support companions, thanks to the generous support from the Ontario Trillium Foundation.

    Tapestry weaving is a medium of artistic expression that is both ancient and modern. It is a way of ‘painting’ with yarn that uses texture, colour and line as part of the process. It is a slow meditative practice that can be described as a form of moving meditation. Join Dianne Kennedy Cruttenden for a day of fun with fibre in this free-spirited weaving workshop. This class is for new weavers and for those who have the basics and wish to explore new techniques. Dianne brings her wealth of knowledge and spirit of adventure to this 51/2 hour class. We will explore the art of tapestry weaving through a variety of techniques such as; plain weave, rya knots, soumak, eccentric weave and irregular hatching, whilst playing with form, colour and texture. Participants will go home with a finished tapestry ready to hang. This is a great way to begin your weaving adventure without the cost of an expensive loom!

    • Portrait Drawing with David Caesar

    PORTRAIT DRAWING with DAVID CAESAR SUNDAY, APRIL 2  |  11am – 5pm MAX. 10  |  Ages 16+ $125 plus HST Please bring your own drawing materials and sketch pad. Join artist David Caesar for this fun and exciting workshop covering the basics of drawing portraits from both life and photographs. David teaches a classical approach which incorporates high realism, with a focus on skill building. He works in the way of the old masters using keen observation and focused critique. His own work is highly detailed and masterful and his class environment encourages students to challenge themselves! During the workshop, David will review the basic proportions of the head and face and move on to a methodology of capturing the likeness of our subject.  You will start by drawing each other (bring your happy face!) and move on to working from photos for a final project. From basic structure to final rendering, students will come away with a new understanding of the portrait drawing process and have the tools to embark on their own projects with confidence!     Artist Reception: Meet Maryam Ebrahimi

    You are invited to the gallery to meet artist Maryam Ebrahimi and hear first-hand about her exhibition, 'Fly Me Away'. Refreshments will be served.  Admission is free.  No registration required! Most popularly known for her ability to capture the illusion of flow on an otherwise static canvas, Maryam Ebrahimi, a Canadian-Iranian artist, is an exquisite professionally trained artist living in Richmond Hill, Ontario.  Her pieces have been showcased both nationally and abroad.  Over the years, Maryam developed an artistic style that is uniquely her own. Her use of a limited colour pallet, combined with heavy layers and seamless brush strokes, results in artwork that is full of depth and personality, and tells a vivid story that is full of emotion.

    CONTEMPORARY WALL SCULPTURE  |  CERAMICS with INGA GIRCYTE  From Domestic Object to ⇨ Contemporary Sculpture 2 Thursday evening ceramic workshop! Thursday, April 27 | 6:00-9 pm Thursday, May 11 | 6:00-9 pm Only 6 spots only available for this workshop! Ages 16+ $175 plus HST $20 kit fee payable in cash to instructor.  All materials provided in kit fee, including glazing and firing.
    Clay hanging on the wall? Yes!! Let's look at the ceramics from a different angle! In this limited-space workshop, artist INGA GIRCYTE will guide you in the creation of a unique abstracted, sculptural wall piece made from clay, mimicking a domestic object. Inga will lead you through this 2 evening bi-weekly process to achieve ready-to-hang, MOMA-worthy results!  Will it be an exact look alike of the primary object or an abstract take! It’s up to you! In this workshop you will learn:
    • the basic techniques of hand building
    • basic techniques of glazing and colour mixing
    We will provide a number of objects from daily life from which to choose. Or if you have a favourite or sentimental object at home; your grandmothers’ egg beater, a well-worn tool from your father’s workbench, a vintage high heel or clutch; a retro game controller; an old-timey toaster or espresso percolator; your dad’s stuffed prized trout; your lucky push up bra? Bring it with you and turn it into an art piece with a deeper personal meaning. The weirder or more wonderful the better! Maximum size approx. 12”x12”. Please note, to create a mould we will be covering these objects in clay and then remove it.

Featuring favourites performed by five musicians, James Gordon, Mark Ostrowski, Ian Reid, Katy Topham and Paul Whitaker in an intimate evening of stories and songs to celebrate this well loved and respected performer. A songwriter’s songwriter with so many heart touching lyrics and ear worm tunes, Prine died of complications from Covid in 2020 leaving a remarkable catalogue of memorable songs.
