Each session, we will embrace diversity and friendship through explorations in art making, movement, mindfulness and music. Every week is as unique as each of our participants!  Supportive Arts is offered free of charge to all participants and support companions, thanks to the generous support from the Ontario Trillium Foundation.

    What is the Nest?  A space to relax and create in our sunny studio at the Elora Centre for the Arts! Just bring YOU and any projects you’re working on, non-digital games, homework, water bottle and snack if you wish. This is an open flow, gender diverse space for gently guided creativity and gathering with friends.

    This is a safe student space for student led projects guided by an ECFTA Arts Facilitator.

    Contemporary Wall Sculpture | Ceramics with Inga Gircyte

    CONTEMPORARY WALL SCULPTURE  |  CERAMICS with INGA GIRCYTE  From Domestic Object to ⇨ Contemporary Sculpture 2 Thursday evening ceramic workshop! Thursday, April 27 | 6:00-9 pm Thursday, May 11 | 6:00-9 pm Only 6 spots only available for this workshop! Ages 16+ $175 plus HST $20 kit fee payable in cash to instructor.  All materials provided in kit fee, including glazing and firing.
    Clay hanging on the wall? Yes!! Let's look at the ceramics from a different angle! In this limited-space workshop, artist INGA GIRCYTE will guide you in the creation of a unique abstracted, sculptural wall piece made from clay, mimicking a domestic object. Inga will lead you through this 2 evening bi-weekly process to achieve ready-to-hang, MOMA-worthy results!  Will it be an exact look alike of the primary object or an abstract take! It’s up to you! In this workshop you will learn:
    • the basic techniques of hand building
    • basic techniques of glazing and colour mixing
    We will provide a number of objects from daily life from which to choose. Or if you have a favourite or sentimental object at home; your grandmothers’ egg beater, a well-worn tool from your father’s workbench, a vintage high heel or clutch; a retro game controller; an old-timey toaster or espresso percolator; your dad’s stuffed prized trout; your lucky push up bra? Bring it with you and turn it into an art piece with a deeper personal meaning. The weirder or more wonderful the better! Maximum size approx. 12”x12”. Please note, to create a mould we will be covering these objects in clay and then remove it.

    • ELORA’S LONGEST BBQ! Food Day Canada Community BBQ on the Bridge in Downtown Elora

    Location: on the Jack R. Macdonald Bridge in downtown Elora (not at the Arts Centre - but we will be at this event!  Come find us in the Kids DIY craft tent!!

    The pedestrian bridge will be filled with BBQs, picnic tables, local chefs, live music, seasonal food, and community spirit. There is also a beer gardens featuring local micro-brews and cocktails. As a throw-back to the very first "World's Longest BBQ" by Food Day Canada founder, the late Anita Stewart, this event will feature affordable delicious wholesome Canadian food open to all ages with a focus on education, celebration, and great community. " This is the opening line to Twelfth Night, one of William Shakespeare’s most merry of romps, abounding with live music, love triangles and lots of silliness!  Twelfth Night is a tale of unrequited love - hilarious and heartbreaking.  Twins are separated in a shipwreck, and forced to fend for themselves in a strange land.  Viola disguises herself as a young man and, under the name of Cesario, gets a job as a servant for the Duke, Orsino and they fall in love.  A festive, mischievous and witty play! The second half of course will be guided in first part, working time and feedback in second half of class. Wake up the weekend in an immersive morning with Donna Hull and learn the drawing 101’s from an art educator with more than 30 years of experience teaching, both in the classroom and beyond! This 5-week series will focus on the wonders of nature, drawing beautiful, organic shapes such as shells and rocks, mushrooms, and root vegetables for the first 3-4 weeks and finishing with their choice of a naturalistic animal portrait. A Deer or Hare! Fundamental Drawing skills are woven into each weekly lesson and home play exercises are encouraged! Our young artists will work on paper and be introduced to artist quality drawing materials and tools such as graphite sticks, mechanical erasers, tortillion blending sticks, kneadable erasers and more!
