About the Workshop: 

This course will appeal to painters of any level, who wish to deepen or rekindle their relationship to their inner muse.

Over two days, you will venture deeper into your painting process and develop your personal expression in a safe, non-judgmental and playful space. There will be lots of individual attention along with group demos to address questions and ideas!

Demonstrations using oil and cold wax, along with a variety of implements, will give you extra tools to assist you in your exploration.
We will be layering, scraping back, using solvent reductions, adding pastels, stamps and stencils, and much more.

Experimenting with a variety of tools such as brayers, clay modeling tools and “squeegies”, we will create beautifully rich surfaces.

Material List

Oil paints (variety of colours)
Palette knives (at least one but feel free to try different shapes and sizes)
Palette to mix paint on (I use a disposable palette)
Rigid surfaces such as cradled panel or masonite (with 2 coats of gesso) 8×10 to 24×36”
Arches Oil Paper (One or two full sheets or a pad)
*Note: We will be working on several pieces at a time so please bring at least three surfaces of your choice
Roll of Paper Towel, Waxed Paper and Masking Tape

Optional Materials

Creative catalyst Wedge (straight edge – beige, scalloped edge, etc)
Brushes of your choice (I don’t use brushes much but they’re good to have on hand)

Very thin papers/tissues or gold/silver leaf for collage

Oil sticks (R&F are the best – available at Above Ground Art Supplies)

Please note: A $20 kit fee is payable in cash to the instructor at the start of class.

About the Artist:

Laurie’s abstract and semi-abstract painting is largely inspired by the natural world and filtered through her inner landscape. She studied fine art at the University of Waterloo and her work is displayed in galleries throughout Ontario. She regularly participates in shows such as the Toronto Outdoor Art Exhibition and International Affordable Art Fairs with Spence Gallery. Laurie’s work is included in private and public collections across North America, Europe and Asia. She works from her home studio in Guelph Ontario.

Laurie also teaches six week sessions at the Guelph School of Art and a week long intensive during the summer at the Wellington County Museum. She offers private and semi-private classes in her home studio. The focus is on building a visual vocabulary of tools and techniques while further establishing each participant’s unique voice.

Cancellations up to 7 days prior to start date will receive a full refund less a $25 administrative fee. No refund of fees will apply to cancellations within 7 days of start date (fees may however be applied/ credited to an alternate course/ workshop).

To help ensure the course you’re interested in runs, we suggest you register no less than two weeks in advance.  In the event of insufficient registrations ECFTA reserves the right to cancel courses/ workshops, & you would be eligible for a full refund of fees, or credit can be applied to a future course/ workshop, pending availability.
