AFTER THE GROUP OF SEVEN. OIL PAINTING WITH RICK WORTHINGTON
Spend the day painting in the tradition of one of Canada’s most celebrated artists. Guided by artist Rick Worthington, students will study and recreate Clarence Gagnon’s 1922 painting After the Storm, gaining valuable insight into the techniques that made his winter landscapes so enduring.
Along the way, we’ll examine Gagnon’s masterful use of colour, value, and composition to convey the beauty of rural Quebec following a fresh snowfall. Discover how he transformed an ordinary winter landscape into a painting rich with warmth, character, and a strong sense of place.
Suitable for adventurous beginners with some painting experience as well as intermediate artists seeking to strengthen their landscape painting skills.
PLEASE NOTE:
- Students are welcome to bring their own supplies, or a $25 material kit will be available for purchase, payable in cash to Rick at the start of class.
- Rick will contact students with a recommended materials list; oil paint, a canvas, odourless solvent, paper towel, brushes, etc
- $25 Kit Fee Option includes oil paint, a canvas, odourless solvent, reference image, grey scale for colour mixing, brushes etc.
Meet Rick!

Rick Worthington is an accomplished full-time impressionist painter based in the charming village of Elora, Ontario. Rick secured his position as a notable artist by winning first place in the “Modern Impressionist Magazine” October/November salon of 2023. His vibrant oil paintings, depicting lively street scenes and cozy cafes, are highly sought after, masterfully capturing the interplay of light and shadow to create a captivating atmosphere.
