How to Build an Oil Painting is designed to gently guides students through Elora artist Rick Worthington’s unique process of creating an oil painting from start to finish. Throughout the course, students will learn how to choose a color palette, sketch out a drawing, block in shapes, and layer oil paints to bring a piece to life!
Over the course of 4 Wednesdays, participants will be offered personalized guidance, live demonstrations, and learn how to simplify complex reference photos, how to develop a strong composition, and helpful cost-saving tips—such as using gesso on paper, and selecting materials.
Please note there is a $20 Kit fee payable to the instructor in cash at the start of class. Kit fee includes oil paint, odourless solvent, brushes, canvas etc.
Students are required to bring their own heavyweight paper sketchbook and source photos to work from. Interior, still life or landscape images are all welcome.
An email will be sent out with suggestions for source photos and sketchbooks brands, closer to the class date.
