Youth Outreach Programs: art as a conduit for healing, belonging and expression
For Giving Tuesday we are raising awareness and money for our Youth Outreach Fund to fuel and sustain our youth outreach programs. These art-based programs provide the conduit for sharing, belonging and healing.
DONATE TODAY!
Our Youth Outreach Fund will help the following programs:
1. Youth Addiction & Recovery Program: The Healing Power of Art and Creative Expression. This program curriculum incorporates art and creative expression as the conduit for acceptance, sharing and healing. It allows for emotional exploration, development of coping strategies and sharing the challenges of recovery. Run by arts educators, engagement facilitators and a social worker. Each 6 week session will run twice weekly in the gallery and classroom at the Elora Centre for the Arts. Our goal is to offer the program for an entire year, which would require an additional $36,000 in funding.
2. Students with Mild Intellectual Disabilities: Community Connections Through Art. This program is designed to help connect students in the M.I.D / Life Skills program in elementary & high school to the important issues in their community. It utilizes engaging and informative art projects as the conduit for community connections, personal well-being, belonging and mental health support. The program is run by an Arts Instructor from the Elora Centre for the Arts, and all supplies are included. Our goal is to offer this program for an entire school year – twice a month for elementary students and twice a month for secondary students. This would require an additional $22,000 in funding.
The Art Centre is at the threshold of an exciting new chapter, and we invite you to take the next step with us! As both our organization and the communities we serve grow, we need to address some of the physical constraints of our two galleries and classroom, to help break down barriers to participation in the arts.
