Bollywood Fusion Beats – a free Culture Days event in the gallery at the Arts Centre

October 12 @ 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Come visit the gallery and meet Lakshmi Venkataraman, a local artist who will be demonstrating a captivating and interactive dance experience that weaves together Indian dance, stunning visual art, and expressive vocals followed by the enchanting art of henna!  Don’t miss this opportunity to immerse yourself in a celebration of culture and creativity!

This is a free event, and part of Culture Days throughout the region.

Meet Lakshmi

Lakshmi Venkataraman began her journey in Indian classical dance and music at just four years old in India. She honed her skills with Sampradaya Dance Academy in Mississauga, Ontario, and toured nationally with the Sampradaya Dance Company until 2001. Over the years, Lakshmi has beautifully blended the vibrancy of Bollywood with the grace of classical dance. In addition to her dance, she is an established visual and henna artist.

Artist Statement

As a Canadian artist with Indian roots, I create immersive experiences by intertwining movement, imagery and vocal expression, deeply influenced by my cultural narratives.  My work explores human emotion and physicality through dance, and communicates intricate stories via visual art.  This dynamic interplay of mediums invites audiences on a journey of discovery and reflection, resonating on both personal and universal levels, while celebrating the richness of heritage.
