ANNOUNCING PETER SKOGGARD’S NEW OPERA
MME LAVOISIER
FUNDRAISING LAUNCH
2 selections from the Opera & Silent Auction
Wednesday, June 24th, 7-9pm
Elora Centre for the Arts
With Librettist Bridget K. Gole, Peter Skoggard has completed the three acts of his third opera. Mme Lavoisier is based on the life of Marie Anne Lavoisier, the wife and close scientific collaborator of Antoine-Laurent Lavoisier, widely regarded as the father of modern chemistry. More than a spouse, Marie Anne played a vital role in documenting, illustrating, translating, and advancing his scientific work. The opera depicts her early life, their courtship and marriage, and their excitement of discovery. However, the French Revolution is brewing, and they are targeted. Love and death abound. Welcome to the world of opera!
We are looking for financial backing to launch a concert performance of this in the winter of 2027, and are therefore planning a fundraising and awareness event for June 24th at the Elora Centre for the Arts, 7 to 9 pm. Bridget and I will be there to describe the process of writing words and music. At the event, we will have two of the singers perform from the opera to give the audience just a taste. Also included will be a Silent Auction with art work and gift certificates from local shopkeepers .
