Step into the serene beauty of a winter night with Elora artist Rick Worthington in this immersive one-day oil workshop exploring the magic of light on a winter night.
Inspired by Rick’s painting Silent Illumination—a glowing portrayal of downtown Elora—this session invites you to explore the interplay of light, colour, and mood of festive lights and the stillness of a snowy winter street.
Through live demonstrations and hands-on practice, you’ll learn:
- How warm and cool tones can combine create luminous effects
- Techniques for suggesting glowing lights through expressive brushwork
- The power of subtle value shifts to evoke stillness and mood
Drawing from Impressionist techniques, artists will experiment with:
- Simplifying complex scenes
- Working with a limited palette
- Applying colour theory to build atmosphere and emotion
With Rick’s personalized guidance, you’ll leave the workshop with a finished painting and a deeper understanding of how to bring light and life into your work.
Please note, there is a $20 kit fee payable in cash to the instructor at the start of class. Kit fee includes oil paint, a canvas, odourless solvent, reference image, grey scale for colour mixing, brushes etc.
All materials are provided in the kit fee.
Meet Rick!
Rick Worthington is an accomplished full-time impressionist painter based in the charming village of Elora, Ontario. Rick secured his position as a notable artist by winning first place in the “Modern Impressionist Magazine” October/November salon of 2023. His vibrant oil paintings, depicting lively street scenes and cozy cafes, are highly sought after, masterfully capturing the interplay of light and shadow to create a captivating atmosphere.
