Installation at Bissell Park, 127 East Mill Street, Elora, ON
16 August – 13 October 2013
Curated by Katherine Dennis
Leading up to the exhibition As Perennial As the Grass, 19 October – 14 December Cauley’s Neighbourhood Messages (2012) invites the Elora community to leave inspirational notes that carry their goodwill to strangers. Located in Bissell Park, a typewriter awaits participants who want to adorn the overhanging tree branches with their messages. As the collection of notes grows visitors are invited to read, respond, reflect on or remove the traces left behind by others. An assemblage of notes chosen by the artist will later hang in the gallery as a record of these anonymous exchanges.
The Middlebrook Prize for Young Canadian Curators is funded by the Centre Wellington Community Foundation through the Middlebrook Social Innovation Fund. The inaugural jury of Ivan Jurakic, UWAG Director/Curator, John Kissick, SOFAM Dean, University of Guelph and Crystal Mowry, KW|AG Senior Curator selected Katherine Dennis. Dennis is a recent graduate of OCAD’s Masters of Fine Arts, Criticism and Curatorial Practices program; she has curated exhibitions at the Thames Art Gallery, Chatham-Kent, the Campbell House Museum and the Gladstone Hotel, Toronto to name a few.

The Art Centre is at the threshold of an exciting new chapter, and we invite you to take the next step with us! As both our organization and the communities we serve grow, we need to address some of the physical constraints of our two galleries and classroom, to help break down barriers to participation in the arts.
