Shannon Kornelsen

Shannon Kornelsen is an award-winning writer, filmmaker and activist. She co-wrote and co-produced the documentary The Game Changers (executive produced by James Cameron and Arnold Schwarzenegger) which has been seen by 200+ million people in 190+ countries. She has won numerous awards for her short stories, including The Eden Mills Writers’ Festival Literary Contest. Her stories have appeared in: The New Quarterly, Matrix Magazine, Joyland Magazine and Found Press. Shannon is a lifelong environmental, social justice and animal welfare activist. Shannon completed her Masters in the Geography & Environmental Studies program at Wilfrid Laurier University. Her thesis focused on food and agricultural literacy in children. She coordinated a commissioned national report on intensive livestock operations in Canada — the first of its kind in the country — and authored a chapter on farm animal welfare for an Oxford University Press undergraduate textbook. She has created and executed public awareness campaigns for national animal/environmental protection organizations (including high profile activations and media appearances.) Prior to her graduate work, Shannon earned an Honours BA from the University of Guelph in International Development (with a specialization in Gender and Development.)
