Annie Tobias is President and CEO of Proximity Institute, a charity founded by the Ontario Hospital Association. Proximity works collaboratively with the 140 Ontario hospitals to ensure ready future leadership and to support the current leadership on priorities that matter most. www.proximityinstitute.com Annie was formerly Vice President Learning at the Ontario Hospital Association. Prior to her time in healthcare, Annie was Director Global Learning and Talent Development at Deloitte, setting the learning and leadership development agenda for 160,000 employees and 9,000 Deloitte partners worldwide. Earlier in her career, Annie spent just shy of fifteen years in Lausanne, Switzerland as a member of senior management with IMD, a leader in international executive education. She is a professionally trained and experienced facilitator and anchor and has taught, facilitated and consulted in the areas of strategy and not-for-profit governance at leading universities and organizations. As part of her current mandate, Annie recently co-curated a collection of readings in partnership with the CEO and Board Chair of Sunnybrook Hospital (Toronto) on CEO succession best practices for boards. She also is co-author of an article titled ‘Every Seat Matters’ published in The Handbook for Board Governance, Prof. Richard Leblanc, York University. Annie is a governor emerita and former Vice Chair of Concordia University, Montreal; former member of the Executive of the Board of St. Mary’s Hospital, Montreal; former Associate Governor of Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Israel; former member of the Board of the Jane Goodall Foundation (Canada); former Vice Chair of Ometz – a Montreal community foundation for youth at risk; and, former member of the board of the Orchestre Metropolitain du Grand Montreal (Yannick Nezet-Seguin, conductor). She earned her MBA from IMD, Switzerland with an emphasis in strategy, and her BA in history from Mount Holyoke College, Massachusetts. A native of Montreal, Annie is conversant in French. Annie recently renovated a 1902 schoolhouse in Ariss, Ontario, and received the Heritage Property Conservation Award (2023) from Heritage Centre Wellington.
