MIGHTY MATISSE! JANUARY PA DAY FOR KIDS

From bright solid shapes to colourful painted still life florals, we will ponder the beautiful and complicated inner world of French icon Henri MATISSE. Young makers will explore composition, pattern and colour, and learn about how artists tell stories with pictures!

We will also examine how artists’ work can change over time and how they find inspiration in new ways of using familiar materials.
Our PA days are designed to inspire 36 young artists! Led by ECFTA Arts Educators and student staff, we will work in 2 groups in both our cheery Art Classroom and sunny Sparrow’s Nest Maker Space.
PA days are a balance of guided-art instruction and open-flow exploration, along with outdoor fresh air play as always!
To ensure that your child is ready for a full day of art making and fun!
- A healthy morning snack + and lunch
- An afternoon snack will be offered to keep the energy going!
- Refillable water bottle
- Indoor shoes are recommended
- Dress for the weather and for art making
At the Elora Centre for the Arts, we strive to support ALL children who would like to attend our programs! We make every effort to accommodate the varying needs of all our Young Makers. Please note however, we are not able to offer full-day, one-on-one support to children with additional needs.

Meet Eileen!
Eileen MacArthur is a practicing artist and arts educator with over 20 years of experience teaching art to adults and children at the Guelph School of Art, Studiohere and the Art Gallery of Guelph. She holds a Master of Fine Art degree from the University of Guelph, and a Bachelor of Fine Art degree from the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design University. Eileen is inspired by watching artist communities evolve and flourish! Eileen owns and operated the Arthur School of Art, an art school located in her studio at her home in Arthur Ontario. www.arthurschoolofart.com
Meet Stephanie!
Stephanie Lines-Toohill brings her magical mix of compassion, creativity, and mindfulness to everything she does. She reminds us to pause and find wonder in unexpected places. She helps us let go of our worries and to be brave. Steph also runs Sparrow’s Nest Makerspace, a collaborative community space of connection. You might find her on a forest walk where she finds calming inspiration and beautiful found objects. Stephanie has been leading youth art groups and community art opportunities for over 15 years. She champions the process of each artist as a curious explorer!
