Exhibition: ‘Interconnected’ by Stan Olthuis

‘Interconnected’, a solo exhibition featuring multi-disciplinary Peterborough artist Stan Olthuis, is an ongoing exploration of ancient Sacred Geometry as a framework for understanding connection, balance, and relational systems in the world we inhabit. Bringing together painting, sculpture, prints, kinetic installation, and performance documentation, the exhibition functions as a fully interdisciplinary environment rather than a static display.

Grounded by a monumental mixed-media wall piece – the exhibition animates the gallery space through movement, symbolism, and spatial dialogue. Geometric forms recur throughout the exhibition, creating visual and conceptual echoes that emphasize exchange, tension, and interdependence.

At its core, ‘Interconnected’ is an exploration of roots, resilience, and intergenerational exchange. Drawing from Sacred Geometry, ancient symbols formed by two intersecting circles are examined while seemingly opposing forces generate new realities through interaction. This form, present across cultures and civilizations, represents the emergence of a third energy born from relationship rather than division.

Together, the works invite visitors to reflect on how individual lives, communities, and natural systems are deeply interconnected – shaped not by opposition, but by continual exchange.

Meet & Greet the Artist:  You are invited to be amongst the first to view this exhibition, meet and speak to the artist and enjoy mingling with community on Sunday July 26th from 2-4PM.  More information about the Opening Reception event can be found here.

  • Stan Olthuis

Stan Olthuis is a Canadian multi-disciplinary visual artist currently based in Nogojiwanong/Peterborough.

He graduated from the Ontario College of Art (OCAD). His work is driven by an ongoing curiosity of our relationship to the world around us. Often reinterpreting persistent symbolisms such as sacred geometry, Olthuis explores spatial tension and interaction through abstract shapes and audience provocations powered by a colourful palette.

Concept and process drive the work. He employs diverse materials and fabrication techniques to make paintings, sculptures and interactive works that welcome the viewer’s involvement. There’s a joy in the rawness and immediacy.

His formal art education started in Chicago with Henrik Krijger, a celebrated Dutch master printmaker, type designer, painter and sculptor. He has shown extensively in private and public galleries and is collected and commissioned by both private and corporate clients.

INTERCONNECTED, a solo exhibition, was featured at The Art Gallery of Peterborough in 2024.
