Community support is Essential.

The Elora Centre for the Arts was founded in 2002 by a group of “dream big” community members, who saw a boarded-up old schoolhouse and were brave enough to have a vision for it.  It was not easy. So much time and love were invested into the building, people came together to repair, paint and fix.  They created spaces for art-makers and events that celebrated the arts.  The Elora Centre for the Arts became a charitable organization and began employing staff, and little by little it grew.  But it always relied on the generosity of volunteer time and the generosity of resources.  The Elora Centre for the Arts is a charitable organization and unique community resource that fosters creativity, a high level of artistic expression, and a mindset of service.

In 2018, the Arts Centre began shifting its gaze outward in a more concerted effort. Asking, “how can we use the arts to serve our community”?  Meaningful outreach programs were established and the “arts hub” vision was strengthened.  A renewed effort to uplift and support artists and makers had begun. Community partnerships were deepened.  This work continues to this day! We want everyone to “see themselves at the Centre,” to find their connection here and feel at home.

Despite the changes over our history, so many things remain the same:  Volunteers are vital. Community support is essential. A vibrant Arts Centre is integral to the health of our community. Creativity lives here.
