This competition honours the life and artistic passion of Shirley Dilworth Jaychuk. Juried representational and impressionist paintings that capture the town and character of Elora, Fergus and rural environs of Centre Wellington will be exhibited. Awards will be announced at the opening reception on April 10.
Shirley Dilworth Jaychuk had a lifetime love of art, she was especially fond of the Group of Seven, specifically A.Y. Jackson, A.J. Casson and J.E.H MacDonald. She also enjoyed the French impressionists and Van Gogh. Upon her passing in 2006, her husband Stan wanted to do something to keep Shirley’s love of art alive and so the Shirley Dilworth Jaychuk Painting Competition was created. “Shirley would have supported this,” said Stan, “This is something to commemorate her love of the arts. The fact that the competition is for representational painting would make her very happy.”
