Meet Alura Sutherland, student artist

Alura Sutherland studied Industrial Design at Carleton University.  She has worked at the Elora Centre for the Arts over the years, assisting with summer camp programming and our student support program during COVID-19 lockdown.  She put her creative skills to excellent use in the early stages of the Pathways project as we were conceptualizing the idea to submit in various grant applications for the project.  She also designed and created the “arrows” that remind us of the signs you see on a beach in the Caribbean.  She wanted to create a handmade, bright and welcoming installation that reminds us of the wonderful spots within our community that are within our reach.

We are so thankful for her talent, skills and creativity!

The Process

Here’s a sample of some early sketches of the project, created by Alura:

Hand-painted directional arrows, getting ready for installation!

The arrows were installed onto a salvaged telephone pole, rescued from  the Elora Lawn Bowling Club.
