SUMMARY:Pavilion Summer Concert Series at the Elora Centre for the Arts: featuring Harry Lee Follon
DESCRIPTION:Our final concert in the pavilion as part of our Summer Concert Series!  You won’t want to miss the classic sound and memorable melodies of Harry Lee Follon on the stage!  And who doesn’t love a fiddle and pedal steel!? \nWith his thick grey beard and ubiquitous wide-brimmed hat\, Harry Lee Follon looks like a man transplanted from a previous century. But that timeless image is the ideal reflection of his music—pure\, honest songs that are as emotionally resonant in 2024 as they would have been in 1924.  His new album ‘Uncle’s Lament’ was just released in June!  “The overall feeling while listening to Uncle’s Lament is something close to sitting in a front parlour enjoying good friends playing music together” – Canadian Beats \nFollon’s music is inspired by the likes of John Prine and Townes Van Zandt\, although he says that he’s also inspired by younger artists working in that tradition such as Jeffery Martin and Joe Pug\, as well as fellow Canadians Spencer Burton and Zachary Lucky. \nAnd lucky you\, this concert is also part of a BBQ Picnic at the Arts Centre – but you have to order meals ahead here.  Otherwise\, just come and enjoy this free concert featuring the amazing Harry Lee Follon! \n \n \n  \nPresented by our amazing community partners at Sorbara Group of Companies\, Tribute Homes\, and The County of Wellington\, The Centre Wellington Community Foundation\, and the Township of Centre Wellington‘s Tourism Marketing Fund. \nScroll down for details! \nEvent Details: \n\nBring a blanket or chair\, come a bit early to get a good spot!\nNo reservation needed – just come as you are!  This is a free event (with the opportunity to pay-what-you-can\, with proceeds going to support local arts)\nThere will be a snack bar with refreshments and snacks (cash only!)\nRain or shine (unless lightning and pouring rain)\nThe pavilion stage in the yard at the Elora Centre for the Arts is located at 75 Melville Street\, Elora Ontario\n\n  \nFor information about the full line up of concerts\, please click here.

SUMMARY:COMMUNITY CONNECTIONS - Youth Outreach. Connecting to Schools Through Art for elementary & high school students
DESCRIPTION:COMMUNITY CONNECTIONS provides free arts programming to youth with intellectual and/or developmental delays in elementary and secondary school in the Life Skills and LRC classrooms.  We meet students once a month throughout the school year at Centre Wellington District Secondary School\, Elora Public School\, John Black Public School in Fergus\, Arthur Public School\, Victoria Cross Public School in Mount Forest\, and June Ave Public School in Guelph. \nLed by an ECFTA Arts Educator\, these sessions offer guided art instruction and contemporary art ideas to students in Centre and North Wellington. \n \nThe program is free to students.  Project themes are centered around community building and emphasize collaboration and success through personal artistic expression. The goal is connecting students to the community in meaningful and creative ways! \nWhy is this program important? \nStudents with developmental delays experience added challenges in feeling supported within the school system and the broader community. These children and youth also have limited access to arts-based resources within schools due to the continued erosion of arts funding. \nThis program strives to engage the emotional and social well-being of students through art making that connects them with community initiatives\, helping them experience community life beyond school. \nThis project arose in response to teachers of LRC and Life Skills students in our area and aligns with our goal of supporting community needs through the arts. Our goal is that students feel more connected and included in their community through the art-making process! \n\n  \nThe 2019 Vital Signs Report demonstrates the need for this program as follows: \n\nOnly 41% of students feel a sense of belonging to their community through school;\nAccessibility to the arts continues to be a barrier for many;\nYouth mental health is a particular vulnerability; and\nConnection to the community is listed as a preventative factor against suicide.\n\nFunding for this program is made possible thanks to the generosity of the Harry E. Foster Charitable Foundation the Johansen-Larsen Foundation and the Centre Wellington Community Foundation. Thank you! \n  \n\nProgram Insights \nEach year\, we discover that as the year progressed\, students gained an appreciation for each other’s work. The collective art making environment allows the students to locate their individuality within a larger group context in a very direct way by comparing how they resolved their works\, and how their classmates may have made different choices. \nThis form of communication and introspection is unique to collective art-making\, that allows for participants to see themselves in the context of others. It is a wonderful opportunity for those who often find it difficult to connect with groups\, to find a common language when looking at and discussing each other’s work. \nStudents with limited verbal communication are able to be a part of a visual conversation that values the uniqueness of perspective and diverse ways of making. \n  \n  \n\nFor more information about this program please contact us at:  programming@ecfta.ca \nTo help support this program by donating today\, please click here.

SUMMARY:Speaker Series: The Creativity Connection: How art contributes to meaningful and healthy futures for children with disabilities and developmental differences
DESCRIPTION:The Creativity Connection: How Art Contributes to Meaningful and Healthy Futures for Children with Disabilities and Developmental Differences \nFeaturing Julia Hanigsberg\, president & CEO of Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital — part of our new Vibrant Visions Speaker Series  \nJoin us as we kick off a brand new speaker series\, Vibrant Visions: Bridging Arts\, Community & Wellness\, in partnership with Aboyne Rural Hospice. \nThis three-part series shines a light on creativity and the arts in health and wellness spaces — from enriching the lives of children with disabilities and caregivers to innovative approaches to end-of-life care.  \n Parents\, educators\, caregivers\, clinicians\, wellness professionals\, youth and young adults with lived experience\, and anyone interested in learning more about the power of art are welcome and encouraged to attend.  \n \nThe first event\, “The Creativity Connection: How Art Contributes to Meaningful and Healthy Futures for Children with Disabilities and Developmental Differences\,” takes place on Sunday\, Sept. 22\, from 2 pm to 4 pm at the Elora Centre for the Arts.   \nUpcoming events in the series will look at the role of the arts in other health and wellness settings\, including caregivers and older adults/end-of-life care (dates to be announced soon).  \nAll proceeds will support local arts programming through the Elora Centre for the Arts and help bring a much-needed hospice to our area through Aboyne Rural Hospice. \nTickets for each event in the series are $30 each ($20 for students)\, or $75 to attend all three events. \nPlease register and purchase your ticket below. \nAbout the Speaker \nJulia Hanigsberg\, president and CEO of Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital\, is the featured speaker. \nA four-time “Canada’s 100 Most Powerful Women” honouree and member of the WXN Hall of Fame\, Julia leads Canada’s largest paediatric rehabilitation hospital serving children and youth with disabilities and complex medical needs. \nShe has spent her career in government\, post-secondary education and healthcare as a champion for cultural transformation\, innovation\, excellence and social justice. \nAt the Sept. 22 event\, Julia will be discussing the many ways that participation in the arts can contribute to meaningful and healthy futures for children and youth with disabilities and developmental differences — including but not limited to neuromotor and neuromuscular conditions\, acquired brain injury and autism. \n\n  \n“The power of creativity and the arts to both inspire and heal is an integral part of what the Arts Centre offers to our community\, and that’s what this speaker series is all about\,” said Sheila Koop\, volunteer chair of the Capital Campaign at the Elora Centre for the Arts.  \n“We are so pleased to be collaborating with the Aboyne Rural Hospice\, showing the ways in which our roles in the community overlap\, and the contribution that the arts make to all stages of life.” \n“We are excited to collaborate with the Elora Centre for the Arts on the Vibrant Visions speaker series\,” said Dr. Clarissa Burke\, a member of Aboyne Rural Hospice’s Board of Directors. \n“These connections are crucial in supporting individuals at the end of life\, their caregivers and the bereaved. Hospice care seeks to address every aspect of the end-of-life experience — physical\, psychological\, social and spiritual — and therapeutic arts have proven beneficial across all these dimensions.”   Read the full press release here. \nSpace is limited!  Scroll down to purchase your ticket now!
