An after school drop-in space for ages 10+ \nPlease check back for the next session registration information! \nWhat is the Nest?  A space to relax and create in our sunny studio at the Elora Centre for the Arts! Just bring YOU and any projects you’re working on\, non-digital games\, homework\, water bottle and snack if you wish. DESCRIPTION:PORTRAIT DRAWING with DAVID CAESAR \nSUNDAY\, APRIL 2  |  11am – 5pm  \nMAX. 10  |  Ages 16+ \n$125 plus HST \nPlease bring your own drawing materials and sketch pad. \nJoin artist David Caesar for this fun and exciting workshop covering the basics of drawing portraits from both life and photographs. David teaches a classical approach which incorporates high realism\, with a focus on skill building. He works in the way of the old masters using keen observation and focused critique. His own work is highly detailed and masterful and his class environment encourages students to challenge themselves! \nDuring the workshop\, David will review the basic proportions of the head and face and move on to a methodology of capturing the likeness of our subject.  You will start by drawing each other (bring your happy face!) and move on to working from photos for a final project. \nFrom basic structure to final rendering\, students will come away with a new understanding of the portrait drawing process and have the tools to embark on their own projects with confidence! \nFeeling adventurous?  Bring any medium you like – pastel\, watercolour\, acrylic\, etc. Come prepared! \nALL LEVELS WELCOME! Suitable for Beginner and Intermediate students. \n \nStudents are asked to bring: \n\nsketchbook (9 x 12″ or larger)\npencils\, eraser\nsmall ruler\nif you have a photo of someone you would like to draw or a project you would like to share\, bring it along!\n\nAbout the Artist \nDavid Caesar is a Guelph-based artist who graduated from the Illustration Program at Sheridan College.  He has been teaching at the Guelph School of Art for over 15 years and has been a guest teacher and lecturer at a number of venues including highschools and Nippising University. \nHis award-winning artwork can be found in both private and public collections and he has designed a number of coins for the Royal Canadian Mint.  In 2018\, his painting “Drift” was featured on the cover of the novel “Moon of the Crusted Snow” by Waubgeshig Rice.  He is currently immersed in a multi-media speculative fiction project called “Arctic World”. https://www.davidcaesar.com/ \n \nIF YOU CANCEL \nCancellations up to 7 days prior to start date will receive a full refund\, less a $25 administrative fee. DESCRIPTION:CONTEMPORARY WALL SCULPTURE  |  CERAMICS with INGA GIRCYTE  \nFrom Domestic Object to ⇨ Contemporary Sculpture \n2 Thursday evening ceramic workshop! \nThursday\, April 27 | 6:00-9 pm  \nThursday\, May 11 | 6:00-9 pm \nOnly 6 spots only available for this workshop! \nAges 16+ \n$175 plus HST \n$20 kit fee payable in cash to instructor.  All materials provided in kit fee\, including glazing and firing. \n\nClay hanging on the wall? Yes!! Let’s look at the ceramics from a different angle! \nIn this limited-space workshop\, artist INGA GIRCYTE will guide you in the creation of a unique abstracted\, sculptural wall piece made from clay\, mimicking a domestic object. \nInga will lead you through this 2 evening bi-weekly process to achieve ready-to-hang\, MOMA-worthy results!  Will it be an exact look alike of the primary object or an abstract take! It’s up to you! \nIn this workshop you will learn: \n\nthe basic techniques of hand building\nbasic techniques of glazing and colour mixing\n\nWe will provide a number of objects from daily life from which to choose. Or if you have a favourite or sentimental object at home; your grandmothers’ egg beater\, a well-worn tool from your father’s workbench\, a vintage high heel or clutch; a retro game controller; an old-timey toaster or espresso percolator; your dad’s stuffed prized trout; your lucky push up bra? Bring it with you and turn it into an art piece with a deeper personal meaning. The weirder or more wonderful the better! \nMaximum size approx. 12”x12”. Please note\, to create a mould we will be covering these objects in clay and then remove it. \n \nEvening one\, 3 hours: hand building. \nEvening two\, 3 hours: paint and glaze \nWork will be fired and ready for pick up from our Artisan Shop by Tuesday\, May 15 through to Sunday May 21\, 2023 \nPlease note\, there is a $20 kit fee payable in cash to the instructor at the start of class to cover clay and firing. \nInga Gircyte is a Lithuanian multidisciplinary artist whose abstract painting has recently migrated from canvas onto ceramic sculpture. She hand-builds panels\, slabs\, and three dimensional hanging objects from clay. After firing them she then explores the irregular surface\, treating it like a canvas or a drawing paper using pigments and glazes\, glaze pencils and crayons\, spray paint and oil.
