SUMMARY:Youth Outreach: Connecting to Community Through Art - for elementary and high school students with (dis)abilities
DESCRIPTION:This program provides  visual arts programming to youth with intellectual and/or developmental (dis)abilities in elementary and secondary school.  Students meet twice a month (once a month at Centre Wellington District High School and once a month at Elora Public School.  The sessions offer art instruction\, provided by an ECFTA Arts Educator\, assisted by classroom teachers. The program\, including instruction and art supplies are free to students.  Project themes are centred around community building\, emphasizing collaboration and success through personal artistic expression. The goal is connecting students to the community in meaningful and creative ways. \n \nWhy is this program important? \nStudents with (dis)abilities (termed “M.I.D” by the school board) experience intellectual and/or developmental delays and face added challenges to feeling supported within the school system and the broader community\, further exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic. They also have limited access to arts-based resources within the school due to the continued erosion of arts funding. This program strives to engage them in focusing on emotional and social well-being through art projects that connect them with community initiatives\, helping them experience community life beyond school. Our goal is that they feel more connected and included in the community. \nThe 2019 Vital Signs Report demonstrates the need for this program as follows: \n\nOnly 41% of students feel a sense of belonging to their community through school;\nAccessibility to the arts continues to be a barrier for many;\nYouth mental health is a particular vulnerability; and\nConnection to the community is listed as a preventative factor against suicide.\n\nThis project arose as a direct request from teachers of M.I.D (mild intellectual disability) and Life Skills students and aligns with our goal of supporting community needs through the arts. \nAs additional funding and donations are secured for our Youth Outreach programs\, additional sessions will be added.  In the meantime\, we are grateful for the support from The Harry Foster Foundation who have enabled this program to run for the Fall/Winter 2022!  We couldn’t run this program without their support! \n  \n\nIn January 2021\,  we had to run this program virtually\, and we were able to offer this online instruction thanks in part to the support from the Ontario Trillium Foundation Community Building Fund.  This funding has been instrumental in supporting the Art Centre’s emergence from the pandemic\, deepen the curation of exhibitions\, and supporting virtual outreach programs for students with (dis)Abilities. \n  \n\n  \n  \n \n  \n  \n  \nFor more information about this program please contact us at:  programming@ecfta.ca \n  \nTo help support this program by donating today please click here.

In 2000 Megan and her husband purchased a farm in Australia that came with 400 fine wool merinos. She started explored felting\, spinning\, and weaving for the sheer enjoyment of being surrounded by incredible fibres. Megan returned to Canada in 2008 and began to combine her love of portraiture and needle felting. The switch from amateur to professional has been a recent decision. The response to Megan’s work has driven that path. Painting with wool to create realistic portraits and landscapes has been a natural progression from watercolour and pastel with exciting results. It is more organic and has a warmth and texture that makes the viewer want to reach out and touch it. \n@inthelineoffibre www.facebook.com/InTheLineofFibre \n   \nIF YOU CANCEL \nCancellations up to 7 days prior to start date will receive a full refund less a $25 administrative fee. SUMMARY:Giving Tuesday! Tuesday November 29th: Please support our youth outreach programs!
DESCRIPTION:PLEASE CONSIDER SUPPORTING OUR YOUTH OUTREACH PROGRAMS FOR GIVING TUESDAY 2022! \nYOU CAN MAKE AN IMPACT FOR 1 OR MORE KIDS IN CENTRE WELLINGTON!  \nOUR PROGRAMS: Youth sense of belonging and resilience have been rocked by the pandemic. Our Youth Outreach programs are designed to harness the power of community\, creativity and art to teach valuable life skills. Your generosity could sponsor 1 kid\, 2 kids or a kid for an entire session! \n \nOUR GOAL: We can’t run these youth programs without your help! Our goal is to raise $8\,000 for these outreach programs\, helping them all run in Winter/Spring 2023. \n \n\nEven before the pandemic\, less than half of students in Centre Wellington reported feeling a sense of belonging to their community\, and this gap is growing. The creative process allows us to meet youth where they’re at and give them a safe space to express themselves. In art\, there is no wrong answer. \nFor Giving Tuesday\, we are raising awareness and money for our Youth Outreach programs that serve kids with added obstacles: elementary and high school students with (dis)Abilities\, teens recovering from addiction\, and tweens looking to find their place in the world. Our goal is to address their severed connection with community\, utilizing the creative process to talk about feelings management\, teamwork\, resilience\, emotional expression and human connection. \n \nYOU CAN BRING ART AND HEALING INTO THE LIVES OF KIDS IN OUR COMMUNITY!\nSupport 1 kid for 1 class\, 2 kids for 1 class or a kid for an entire session! \n1. High School & Elementary Students with (dis)Abilibities: Community Connections Through Art \nThis program connects Centre Wellington students with (dis)abiities to important community conversations\, using art projects as the conduit for connection\, personal well-being\, belonging and mental health support. Projects emphasize collaboration and success through personal artistic expression. This is a bi-weekly program within the schools. \n1 kid\, 1 class = $20 | 2 kids\, 1 class = $50 | 1 kid\, full session = $550 \n2. The Nest! After School Program for Tweens \nThis program supports tweens age 10+ seeking to re-engage and re-connect with their peers in a safe\, creative and nurturing space. This social “maker space” encourages community building\, collaboration and creativity. Sessions are gently guided\, allowing for free flow of thoughts and ideas. Arts Centre facilitators provide supervision\, gently guided creative projects and support in this open flow\, gender diverse program. This is a weekly program. \n1 kid\, 1 class = $30 | 2 kids\, 1 class = $60 | 1 kid\, full session = $550 \n3. Youth Addiction & Recovery Program: The Healing Power of Art and Creative Expression \nIn partnership with Portage Ontario\, this program incorporates art and creative expression as the conduit for acceptance\, sharing and healing. It allows for emotional exploration\, coping strategies and discussions about the challenges of recovery. Run by Arts Centre educators\, engagement facilitators and a social worker. Each session is 6 weeks\, run twice weekly at the Arts Centre. \n1 kid\, 1 class = $45 | 2 kids\, 1 class = $90 | 1 kid\, full session = $400 \n  \nFor ways to give please click here!
