SUMMARY:Joyful Mending: The Art of Visible Mending Workshop
DESCRIPTION:JOYFUL MENDING! THE ART OF VISIBLE MENDING WORKSHOP \nWITH DIANNE KENNEDY-CRUTTENDEN \nAges 16+  |  MAX. 10 participants \n$80 + HST \nIn this one day workshop we will celebrate the mends and embellishments that bring new life to old clothes and favourite textiles to create “beautiful scars for the loved but torn”. Let’s mend that favourite T-shirt\, pair of jeans or blanket! It takes 2\,700 litres of water to produce ONE T-shirt. Let’s repair our wonderful textiles instead of buying another or adding them to landfill. \n \nThere are so many methods of mending various woven and knitted fabrics. Explore all of these with Dianne and let her share with you her favourite embroidery\, sashiko\, and darning stitches. \nYou will create a sampler of stitches and then continue onto working on individual mending projects and/or create a selection of patches that can be used in future repairs or embellishments. \nIf you don’t have anything to mend\, Dianne will show you how to make wonderful patches that you can use in the future or even frame as a little piece of art. \nWhat to Bring: \n\nsomething you’d like to patch\, repair or embellish.\nscissors\nsewing needles for embroidery\na variety of embroidery floss and/or yarn to repair your piece\nfabric and or squares of felt for making patches\n5”-6” embroidery hoop\n\nIf you do not have any of the above\, Dianne will have lots of yarn\, floss\, fabric etc. available for purchase. \nShe will also have a variety of mending tools you can experiment with during the class. \n\nAbout the Instructor \nDianne Kennedy Cruttenden has been creating woven tapestries and clothing since 1970. She has honed her skill over the decades\, often carding\, dyeing and spinning her own yarn. Dianne has taught weaving over the years throughout North America\, from the Canadian Arctic to the United States. \n@dkcweaver (IG) @Dianne Kennedy-Cruttenden (FB) \n  \n  \n  \nHealth & Safety \nTo ensure the health and safety of staff and participants\, daily cleaning and masking will be in place to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience. Participants will be asked to complete a COVID-19 Liability Waiver. If classes are cancelled for any reason due to Public Health concerns\, refunds will be given in full. \n\nMore Information \nPlease contact us for more information. \n

SUMMARY:Side Pony and Drea Lake LIVE in Elora!
DESCRIPTION:Join Side Pony (Nashville) for their Canadian debut and Drea Lake in her hometown debut for a night of original music! \nEnjoy a night of music in the gallery at the Elora Centre for the Arts!  Limited seating for an intimate evening of unplugged acoustic music! \n$19.47 + HST \nMax 40 tickets | Doors open 7:30PM \nCan’t make it in person?  Watch this live performance virtually!  Simply purchase your ticket for the virtual option below\, and an email link will be sent to you the day before the show. \n \n \n  \n  \n  \n  \nMore About Side Pony \nFrom the moment they first sang together\, Alice Wallace and Caitlin Cannon knew they had something\, they just didn’t know what to call it. The “lovely harmony\,” extolled by The Boot after the release of their first single\, “Lucky Break\,” in April 2021\, describes musical kismet that can’t be manufactured or even learned. As artists with vastly different styles and personalities\, the pair recognized there was strength in the depth of their differences. A shared love for a heartbreaking hook and punchy turn of phrase led to an album’s worth of co-written songs that deftly straddle the line between class and crass. This demanded they finally put a name to that intangible something between them–they call that thing Side Pony. \nListen to Side Pony here \nPraise for Side Pony here \n  \nMore About Drea Lake \nDrea lake is a singer songwriter who grew up in Elora. Her acoustic sound reflects influences of pop\, folk\, fingerstyle guitar and neo soul. Her first and second release received wide praise and her debut song Bird in your Window was called “One of the top ten best recent Indie tracks” by Last Day Deaf..  To find out more about Drea Lake please click here. \nListen to Drea Lake here \nPraise for Drea Lake here \n

SUMMARY:Youth Outreach: Connecting to Community Through Art - for elementary and high school students with (dis)abilities
DESCRIPTION:This program provides  visual arts programming to youth with intellectual and/or developmental (dis)abilities in elementary and secondary school.  Students meet twice a month (once a month at Centre Wellington District High School and once a month at Elora Public School.  The sessions offer art instruction\, provided by an ECFTA Arts Educator\, assisted by classroom teachers. The program\, including instruction and art supplies are free to students.  Project themes are centred around community building\, emphasizing collaboration and success through personal artistic expression. The goal is connecting students to the community in meaningful and creative ways. \n \nWhy is this program important? \nStudents with (dis)abilities (termed “M.I.D” by the school board) experience intellectual and/or developmental delays and face added challenges to feeling supported within the school system and the broader community\, further exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic. They also have limited access to arts-based resources within the school due to the continued erosion of arts funding. This program strives to engage them in focusing on emotional and social well-being through art projects that connect them with community initiatives\, helping them experience community life beyond school. Our goal is that they feel more connected and included in the community. \nThe 2019 Vital Signs Report demonstrates the need for this program as follows: \n\nOnly 41% of students feel a sense of belonging to their community through school;\nAccessibility to the arts continues to be a barrier for many;\nYouth mental health is a particular vulnerability; and\nConnection to the community is listed as a preventative factor against suicide.\n\nThis project arose as a direct request from teachers of M.I.D (mild intellectual disability) and Life Skills students and aligns with our goal of supporting community needs through the arts. \nAs additional funding and donations are secured for our Youth Outreach programs\, additional sessions will be added.  In the meantime\, we are grateful for the support from The Harry Foster Foundation who have enabled this program to run for the Fall/Winter 2022!  We couldn’t run this program without their support! \n  \n\nIn January 2021\,  we had to run this program virtually\, and we were able to offer this online instruction thanks in part to the support from the Ontario Trillium Foundation Community Building Fund.  This funding has been instrumental in supporting the Art Centre’s emergence from the pandemic\, deepen the curation of exhibitions\, and supporting virtual outreach programs for students with (dis)Abilities. \n  \n\n  \n  \n \n  \n  \n  \nFor more information about this program please contact us at:  programming@ecfta.ca \n  \nTo help support this program by donating today please click here.
