DESCRIPTION:A grand finale event for ‘A rare Find’ exhibition and online art auction will take place at the Elora Centre for the Arts on Saturday March 21\, 2026 – this is a ticketed event. Visitors will be able to view the works on display and bid from the gallery.  Or\, if you can’t be at this grand finale event in person\, bidding can take place online all night\, so don’t miss out on your favourite pieces!   \n \nPURCHASE YOUR TICKETS TO THE GRAND FINALE EVENT! \nFor more information about the ‘A rare Find’ exhibition and online art auction\, please click here. \n* Please note that this is a fundraiser for rare Charitable Research Reserve.  All proceeds go to the important environmental work of the rare organization.  We are honoured to host this exhibition and event at the Arts Centre\, however this is not a fundraiser for the Elora Centre for the Arts. \nAbout rare: \nrare is a community-based urban land trust and environmental institute that protects over 1\,550 acres of natural lands across ten locations in Waterloo Region and Wellington County. Conservation is our priority\, promoting a biodiverse and sustainable world for everyone’s health and wellbeing\, now and for the future. Everything is connected—as a land trust and environmental institute\, rare’s ultimate goal is to make the world a more sustainable place. We do this by making the environment relevant in people’s lives through conservation\, research and education in ways that are inclusive of different worldviews and all forms of inquiry. This includes interdisciplinary art programming such as the Eastern Comma Artist-in- Residence and Question Mark Fellowship\, and The Long Dash Festival\, all delivered in partnership with The Musagetes Foundation. Through these growing art programs\, rare engages artists and communities in critical inquiry\, knowledge exchange\, and reflection on human–environment relationships.

SUMMARY:Live in the Atrium with David Francey
DESCRIPTION:Come enjoy the talented David Francey in the beautiful new atrium at the Elora Centre for the Arts!  David’s concerts are legendary and this intimate concert in a gorgeous setting is highly anticipated by many local fans.  Winner of four Juno awards and three Canadian Folk Music Awards\, David’s beautiful song-writing and stories will enchant all who are able to be there. \n \nEvent Details: \nTickets are limited!  The concert starts at 7:30pm (doors open at 7pm).  Seats are general admission (only 100 seats). A bar will be available before the show and between sets. \nNeed more info?  If you have questions regarding the event please contact organizer Claire McElhinney at clairemce@yahoo.com \nMore about the Artist: \nDavid Francey is a Scottish-born Canadian carpenter-turned-songwriter\, who has become known as “one of Canada’s most revered folk poets and singers” (Toronto Star). Born in Ayrshire\, Scotland to parents who were factory workers\, he moved to Canada when he was twelve. For decades\, he worked across Canada in rail yards\, construction sites\, and in the Yukon bush\, all the while writing poetry\, setting it to melodies in his head and singing it to himself as he worked. \nA truly authentic folk singer\, Francey is a documentarian of the working person who never imagined earning a living from his music. But when he was in his 40s\, his wife\, artist Beth Girdler\, encouraged him to share his songs and sing in public. The reaction was instant. His first album Torn Screen Door came out in 1999 and was a hit in Canada.\nSince then\, David has released thirteen albums\, won four Juno Awards and has had his songs covered by such artists as The Del McCoury Band\, The Rankin Family\, James Keelaghan and Tracy Grammer.  Francey also had the honour of receiving the prestigious SOCAN Folk Music Award as well as taking home the Grand Prize in both the International Acoustic Music Award and in the Folk category for the John Lennon Songwriting Award. \n“David’s straightforward songs tell honest stories of real people and real places. Poetic perception and a keen eye for the heart of the matter are trademarks of the man and his music. His songs and stories are a direct connection for audiences seeking depth and meaning in the day-to-day.” Shelter Valley Folk Festival \nDavid Francey was born in Ayrshire\, Scotland where he got his first taste of the working life as a paperboy. At age 10 he was devouring the newspapers he delivered\, establishing a life-long interest in politics and world events while developing the social conscience that forms the backdrop of his songs.\n\nHe was twelve when his family immigrated to Toronto. He says he can trace his love of the land\, the history\, and the people of his adopted country to weekend family drives exploring southern Ontario. Music played a large part in these family outings. They sang traditional Scottish tunes as they drove through the Canadian countryside. Dad and sister Muriel sang melody\, while mother and David sang harmonies. \nHis attachment to Canada grew with travel. He hitched across the country three times\, then thumbed his way to the Yukon. This attachment surfaces in his songs of rail lines\, farms\, and the St. Lawrence Seaway. He grew to understand the people while working in Toronto train yards\, the Yukon bush\, and as a carpenter in the Eastern Townships. These experiences colour his first CD\, Torn Screen Door\, with songs like Hard Steel Mill\, Gypsy Boys\, and Working Poor and his second\, Far End of Summer\, with Highway\, Flowers of Saskatchewan and February Morning Drive. \nIn concert David is a singer and a storyteller. His wry humour and astute observations combined with his openhearted singing style have earned him a loyal following.

SUMMARY:BIRDS OF BECOMING. SCULPTURE WITH CAROLE CHALOUPKA
DESCRIPTION:BIRDS OF BECOMING WITH ELORA SCULPTOR CAROLE CHALOUPKA \n1 ticket available! This class is also available May 31 \nBirds of Becoming is a hands-on sculpture workshop centred on making a bird form as a container for personal reflection and becoming. \nProfessional sculptor Carole Chaloupka approaches sculpture as a meaningful creative practice—one in which the act of shaping an object by hand allows form\, intention\, and meaning to emerge together. \n \nIn this workshop\, Carole guides participants through a considered\, step-by-step sculptural process using a lightweight\, Japanese stone clay. The method is clear and well-structured\, while leaving space for individual expression.  \nBirds have long appeared across cultures as powerful symbols of transition\, freedom\, and inner movement – creatures that move between earth and sky\, matter and spirit. In Birds of Becoming\, the bird form serves as a quiet\, sculptural metaphor\, allowing participants to work with ideas of change\, resilience\, and attention through making. \nParticipants may choose to colour their clay prior to sculpting\, or paint after drying. Completed birds can either be mounted as a freestanding sculpture on a small wooden base\, or become a suspended sculptural form incorporating glass beads. \nAll materials are provided\, and participants will leave with a completed sculptural piece. \nThis workshop is suitable for beginners as well as those with prior art experience who are interested in sculpture as a reflective\, process-led practice. \nSculptor Carole Chaloupka approaches sculpture as a deeply rewarding creative journey–one where the maker shapes an object with their own hands\, imbuing it with personal meaning and intention. \n\n  \nPlease note there is a $25 kit fee\, payable to Carole at the start of class. All materials are included in the kit fee. \nThere is a minimum of 6 to run this class. Fees will be fully refunded if class is not able to run. \nContact us for more info.

SUMMARY:FIRE & FORM. CREATING A FUSED GLASS BOWL WITH STEPH HOWE
DESCRIPTION:Join glass artist Steph Howe for an introduction to the art of fused glass and create a beautiful set of two sculpted dishes. In this hands‑on workshop\, participants learn the essentials of cutting and grinding glass\, then work on a pre‑fused flat glass panel as their creative base. \n \nThis workshop will explore colour\, form\, and surface design while learning essential fused‑glass techniques. Using glass frit (powdered glass)\, glass noodles\, and fusible glass paints\, students will build their own custom design with vibrant detail and depth. \nEach bowl\, approximately 6” will be crafted from 2 layers of glass that are fully fused flat and ready to decorate before the class. By the end of class\, you’ll have a pair of unique\, handcrafted dishes ready to display or gift. \nFollowing class\, Steph will take each piece to her home studio for final kiln firing. \nFinished artworks will be returned to the Art Centre within 2 weeks. Participants will receive an email notification when their pieces are ready for pickup! \n\n  \nFused glass is a labor-intensive process to prepare\, with a higher material cost. Please note\, there is a $30 kit fee payable to the instructor in cash or transfer at the start of class. All tools and materials will be provided in the kit fee. \nIf participants have their own glass cutting tools\, please feel free to bring them along! \n
