Dianne brings her wealth of knowledge and spirit of adventure to this 5-1/2 hour class and you will go home with a finished tapestry ready to hang! \nTapestry weaving is a medium of artistic expression that is both ancient and modern. It’s a way of ‘painting’ with yarn that uses texture\, colour and line as part of the process. This workshop is designed for those both with experience\, and those who are new to Tapestry Weaving. \nWe will explore the art of tapestry weaving through a variety of techniques such as; plain weave\, rya knots\, soumak\, eccentric weave and irregular hatching\, whilst playing with form\, colour and texture. \nDianne will also bring a variety of looms and demonstrate how to warp up the various looms\, including a pipe loom and a rigid heddle loom. Students can then take turns trying them out. This is a great way to begin your weaving adventure without the cost of an expensive loom! \nFor those who have some experience we will refresh and build upon the skills you have and for those who are new\, well get ready to have fun and learn an exciting and beautiful way of expressing your creativity. Kidd in Michigan during the 1970s.  In February of 2015 Dianne completed an internship with world-renowned tapestry artist Maximo Laura.  She has taught her weaving skills over the years throughout North America from the Canadian Arctic to the United States. \nDianne’s work has been shown and collected throughout North America at such venues as: The Detroit Institute of Arts\, Nuit Blanche 2013 in Ottawa\, the Gore Bay Museum in Gore Bay\, Ontario\, the Textile Museum of Canada\, and for many years at her own galleries\, The Brick Room Gallery in St. Catharines and The Queen Street Gallery in Niagara-on-the-Lake. \nIF YOU CANCEL \nCancellations up to 7 days prior to start date will receive a full refund\, less a $25 administrative fee. David teaches a classical approach which incorporates high realism\, with a focus on skill building. He works in the way of the old masters using keen observation and focused critique. His own work is highly detailed and masterful and his class environment encourages students to challenge themselves! \nIn this exciting and comprehensive workshop\, we will review basic bird anatomy and move on to creating a composition for the basis of a wildlife painting or drawing.  Working from either photos provided by the instructor or photos that students bring in themselves\, we will discuss basic drawing techniques as well as rendering our main subject as well as any background or foreground elements we choose to include. \nAny medium is welcome. Pencil\, pastel\, watercolour\, acrylic\, etc. All wet or dry media accepted. Come prepared! \nALL LEVELS WELCOME! Yes!! Let’s look at the ceramics from a different angle! \nIn this limited-space workshop\, artist INGA GIRCYTE will guide you in the creation of a unique abstracted\, sculptural wall piece made from clay\, mimicking a domestic object. \nInga will lead you through this 2 evening bi-weekly process to achieve ready-to-hang\, MOMA-worthy results!  Will it be an exact look alike of the primary object or an abstract take! It’s up to you! \nIn this workshop you will learn: \n\nthe basic techniques of hand building\nbasic techniques of glazing and colour mixing\n\nWe will provide a number of objects from daily life from which to choose. Or if you have a favourite or sentimental object at home; your grandmothers’ egg beater\, a well-worn tool from your father’s workbench\, a vintage high heel or clutch; a retro game controller; an old-timey toaster or espresso percolator; your dad’s stuffed prized trout; your lucky push up bra? Bring it with you and turn it into an art piece with a deeper personal meaning. The weirder or more wonderful the better! \nMaximum size approx. 12”x12”. She hand-builds panels\, slabs\, and three dimensional hanging objects from clay. After firing them she then explores the irregular surface\, treating it like a canvas or a drawing paper using pigments and glazes\, glaze pencils and crayons\, spray paint and oil. Woodburning\, however\, requires various different techniques to create texture\, lines and tonal values and is a much slower process. \nJoin Pyrography Artist Heather Martin of FireWork Designs to begin or expand your knowledge of woodburning while you create your own usable\, giftable cherry or ambrosia maple charcuterie board. \nHeather will guide you through various woodburning techniques to incorporate texture and interest to your piece. You will also learn about recommended woods and other helpful hints as you work your way through this immersive process. \nIt’s always fun to learn with a friend\, with no experience in drawing or woodburning\, this makes the perfect class to relax and enjoy the afternoon together! No Experience Necessary. \nAll materials provided: 8x10inch Charcuterie Board\, 1oz Board Cream \n \nAbout the artist: \nHeather Martin of FireWork Designs\, is a practicing Pyrography Artist in Fergus Ontario that has been woodburning for almost a decade. Her passion for creating is shown in her unique woodburned designs completed on a mix of locally sourced woods. The pyrography classes Heather teaches are perfect for beginners or seasoned pyrography students that are ready to bring their art to the next level. \nFrom the lines and patterns naturally in the wood to the slow immersive process of woodburning. Heather is drawn to the extensive depth and texture attainable with the medium that is almost sculptural. Heather completed her Bachelor’s of Arts at University of Toronto and Sheridan Institute in Art and Art History. She specialized in Sculpture\, Print Media and Photography. The accumulation of her interests are quite apparent in her work. DESCRIPTION:LOOSE DUTCH FLORAL ACRYLIC!  \nPAINTING IN THE ROUND with EILEEN MACARTHUR  \nFOR AGES 16+ | MAX. 10 \nSaturday\, February 18\, 2023 | 10 am – 3 pm \n$130 plus HST | All materials included \nsold out\nJoin artist Eileen MacArthur for a light and loose\, guided workshop\, with focus on creating a tondo floral composition using multiple found sources for inspiration and a conte transfer to get started! \nEileen will lead you in the steps to create a 2-foot diameter\, original acrylic on a round MDF panel. Explore colour mixing\, the figure-ground relationship\, and elements of composition. During the course of the day\, artists will also delve into various techniques of representational painting\, loosely based in the Dutch floral tradition\, and try out several brushes and methods of paint application. \nAll levels of experience welcome! \n \nAll materials are supplied\, including tondo panel and acrylics. \nArtists are encouraged to bring any specific materials (brushes\, paint colours) they may wish to use or explore with Eileen. \nEileen MacArthur is a practicing artist and arts educator with over 15 years of experience teaching art to adults and children at the Elora Centre for the Arts\, the Guelph School of Art\, Studiohere and the Art Gallery of Guelph. It is a way of ‘painting’ with yarn that uses texture\, colour and line as part of the process. It is a slow meditative practice that can be described as a form of moving meditation. \nJoin Dianne Kennedy Cruttenden for a day of fun with fibre in this free-spirited weaving workshop. This class is for new weavers and for those who have the basics and wish to explore new techniques. Dianne brings her wealth of knowledge and spirit of adventure to this 51/2 hour class. We will explore the art of tapestry weaving through a variety of techniques such as; plain weave\, rya knots\, soumak\, eccentric weave and irregular hatching\, whilst playing with form\, colour and texture.
