Following the workshop\, enjoy a live reading and discussion as Kevin and Joanna share from their newly published works. \n \nJoin us for an inspiring evening that blends storytelling\, creative exploration\, and tactile art. \nThe event will open with a reading featuring two writers sharing both fiction and non-fiction work (approximately 20 minutes each)\, followed by a Q&A and open discussion with the audience. \nAfter the reading\, participants are invited to take part in a writing workshop that will offer insights into both fiction and non-fiction writing. Attendees are encouraged to bring a notebook or laptop\, as well as up to two pages of writing they would like to share and workshop in a supportive setting. \nComplementing the literary experience is a collection of interactive art sculptures by Leslie Putnam. These tactile works—displayed on our book table—reflect themes of transformation and healing found in the readings. Attendees are welcome to touch\, hold\, and engage with the art throughout the evening. \nWhether you’re a writer\, a reader\, or simply curious\, this event offers a unique opportunity to connect through words and art. \nKevin Andrew Heslop presents The Writing on the Wind’s Wall\, a compelling and tender inquiry into the experiences of those affected by Medical Assistance in Dying (MAiD) in his hometown of London\, Ontario. The book is shaped by family connections and a decade of deep conversations with writers and artists around the world. \nJoanna Cockerline introduces Still\, a gripping novel set on the streets of Kelowna\, BC. It follows Kayla\, who lives and works on the street\, and Little Zoe\, a sex trade worker who is missing. This is a meaningful time to pause\, reflect\, and set intentions for the season ahead. \nPyrography artist Heather Martin will lead a guided mindfulness practice to help center ourselves and connect inward. Using woodburning tools and intuitive art\, you’ll create a personal piece that reflects your current focus\, goals\, or feelings. The evening will close by taking time to set clear\, thoughtful intentions\, supported by the energy of the new moon and the unique symbolism of the eclipse. \n \nNo artistic experience is necessary—this is about the process\, not the product. Open Studio is designed as open-flow studio time\, loosely guided by artist Eileen MacArthur for artists who have some experience and would like specific guidance to develop or resolve their work. Classes will be collaborative and relaxed and offer both individual and group critiques\, as well as affording the students to opportunity to experiment with various methods and materials. \n \nEach week will start with a guided exercise for students to develop their critical thinking and studio practice. Week one students will start with some warm-up exercises\, make a material list and be asked to shop for their supplies for weeks 2-6. Join this guided two-part workshop where you’ll explore the beauty of pyrography on paper. Learn how to create consistent lines\, intricate patterns\, and beautiful shading using burning techniques—all in a relaxed\, creative environment. No prior experience needed!  \n \nDay 1: Exploring Paper & Techniques \nBegin your journey into paper pyrography by understanding the unique qualities of various papers including Fabriano\, Arches and more. You’ll learn to choose the right paper—such as sizing\, weight\, texture of paper—to ensure optimal results. Techniques like stippling\, hatching\, and gradient burning will be introduced to add depth and texture to your designs. Additionally\, you’ll discover how to incorporate colour using watercolour to enhance your artwork. \nDay 2: Creating Artwork \nOn the second day\, you’ll apply the skills acquired to create a detailed pyrography artwork on professional paper in an 8×10 format.
