A great way to continue your weaving journey!  Just bring your enthusiasm! \n \nIf you have ideas and images you wish to work with\, bring them along! \nWe will be working on 13” x 17” frame looms and learn how to warp the loom and use ‘butterflies’ (yarn bundles). Dianne will offer a variety of beautiful yarns for your weaving pleasure including a selection of her hand dyed and hand spun yarn\, unspun wool\, and even some strips of fabric and ribbon yarns to play with. You should be well along the way of creating your masterpiece by the end of the day! \nThis workshop is ideal for those with basic weaving experience or those who have taken one of Dianne’s beginner workshops. \nBring your sense of adventure\, willingness to play with design\, colour and texture! \nPlease note: $30 kit fee to be paid to Dianne at the start of the workshop. \nMeet Dianne! \n \nDianne has been creating woven art since the early 1970’s. Dianne first studied weaving at Sheridan School of Design\, apprenticed with Robert L. Kidd in Michigan and in 2015 completed an internship with Master Tapestry artist Maximo Laura in his studio in Lima\, Peru. A lifetime of weaving; Dianne’s work has been shown and collected throughout North America in venues such as The Detroit Institute of Art\, Nuit Blanche in Ottawa\, The Gore Bay Museum\, the Textile Museum of Canada\, The Queen Street Gallery in Niagara on the Lake\, The Brick Room Gallery in St. Cathrines and the Sheepish Grin on Manitoulin Island\, The Elora Fergus Studio Tour\, and is a member of the Octarines Women’s Art Collective that has shown throughout the region. She spends a lot of time outside connecting with nature and drawing inspiration from all around. She loves to learn from both nature and others\, and enjoys sharing her knowledge with others as well. DESCRIPTION:EXHIBITION: ‘Journey to the Metaverse’: A 3D visual music experience by Tech Artist Gord Harris\nA fusion of interactive art\, music and technology! \nFebruary 1 – March 17\, 2024 (admission is free) \n‘Journey to the Metaverse’ is a 3D visual music experience in the gallery at the Elora Centre for the Arts.  The aim of this project is to introduce new audiences to the metaverse of synesthesia by generating 3D computer art from music. Synesthesia means one sensation triggering another automatically\, such as a sound making you think of colour\, or certain words making you think of a taste. \n \nGord Harris’s ambition with this practice is not just to present visuals or song\, but to bridge the gap between perception and technology\, aesthetics and lived reality. The word “metaverse’ comes from science fiction\, referring to the predicted next evolution of the internet: a shared single\, immersive\, 3D virtual space where humans experience life in ways they could not in the physical world.  Access to synesthetic experiences is usually limited by biology; access to the metaverse\, however\, has traditionally been limited by economics. This experience will enable the user to engage in a shared VR experience of synesthesia—visual music—in the metaverse using 3D stereovision glasses. \nThe result isn’t just a simple art show but a transformative journey\, akin to stepping into a collective alternate reality. “Journey to the Metaverse” will delight audiences of all ages with the synesthetic magic of 3D Visual Music. \nThis crowd-pleasing effect will be more pronounced in immersive 3D stereo\, thanks to this exhibition’s groundbreaking fusion of interactive art\, music\, and technology.  It celebrates the elements of STEAM (science\, technology\, engineering\, art and math) in a way that is engaging and leading edge. \nThe gallery is open Wed – Sat 10AM – 4PM and Sun 12-4PM.  3D glasses are provided of use.  Admission is free. \nTo read more about this exhibition\, the artist and the ‘making of’ this exhibition please click here!

DESCRIPTION:LOOSE STILL LIFE  |  ACRYLICS & MIXED MEDIA \nWITH INGA GIRCYTE \nSaturday\, January 27\, 2024  |  10 AM – 2:30 PM \nAGES 16+  |  MAX 12  |  $120 + hst \nsold out\nIn this workshop\, artist INGA GIRCYTE will guide you in a free and relaxed approach to STILL LIFE using few techniques which will help you to loosen up and gain more confidence when approaching painting with acrylic. \nStudents will start with warm up exercises on paper\, moving into mixed media applications\, and then to the final canvas. Inga will show you how to combine different mediums together to achieve unique and expressive results! \nAt the end of the workshop\, you will leave with drawings\, one on archival paper with mixed media\, and the finished canvas. \nAll experience levels are welcome! \n \nMaterials included: \nacrylic\, paint markers\, archival paper\, brushes etc. \nStudents are asked to please provide their own CANVAS or WOOD PANEL\, or CANVAS PANEL. Tea is also available in the classroom. \n\nMeet Inga! \n \nInga Gircyte is a multidisciplinary artist born and raised in Lithuania. Her journey began with a Bachelor’s degree in Theatre Directing before she relocated to Canada in 2011. In that same year\, Inga embarked on the development of her painting and ceramics skills\, eventually transitioning into a role as an art educator. In 2019\, she completed her BFA in the Drawing and Painting program at OCAD University. \nInga’s work delves into both sculptural and painterly realms across various surfaces and mediums. Her creative process is influenced by her cultural heritage\, drawing from her Lithuanian indigenous knowledge to explore connections between ecosystems and the spiritual reverence for them. Let’s explore how our animal-neighbours spend the coldest months of the year through art in a creative and cozy day designed to celebrate the Canadian winter in us! \nThis school year\, we have expanded our PA Day program to accommodate 36 young artists! We will be dividing our PA Day kids into 2 groups (ages 4-6 and 7-12) and working in both our cheery Art Classroom and the sunny Sparrow’s Nest Maker Space . \nLed by ECFTA Art Educators Alexa Collette and Stephanie Lines-Toohill. Our PD days will be a balance of guided art instruction & learning in our art classroom\, and open-creative exploration in our maker space. Along with outdoor fresh air and play during breaks\, as always! \n \n\nAbout the Instructors \nAlexa Collette recently graduated from the BA program at the University of Guelph and has been facilitating workshops and camp experiences for the past few years and loving every minute of it! Alexa is a painter\, drawer\, loves creating murals\, and collaborating with the community. She is excited to create a space for art-making and exploration at the Elora Centre for the Arts! \n  \n  \n  \n \nStephanie Lines-Toohill brings her magical mix of compassion\, creativity\, and mindfulness to everything she does. She reminds us to pause and find wonder in unexpected places. She helps us let go of our worries and to be brave. Steph also runs Sparrow’s Nest Makerspace\, a collaborative community space of connection. You might find her on a forest walk where she finds calming inspiration and beautiful found objects. Stephanie has been leading youth art groups and community art opportunities for over 15 years. The working environment will be collaborative and specific exercises will be included for students to develop their critical thinking and studio practice. \n \nWeek one students will start with some warm-up exercises\, make a material list and be asked to shop for their supplies for weeks 2-6. Materials will be provided for week one. \n\nEileen offers a welcoming and collaborative environment for all skill levels to learn from one another\, while developing their own individual art practice. \nMeet Eileen! \nEileen MacArthur is a practicing artist and arts educator with over 15 years of experience teaching art to adults and children at the Elora Centre for the Arts\, the Guelph School of Art\, Studiohere and the Art Gallery of Guelph. She holds a Master of Fine Art degree from the University of Guelph\, and a Bachelor of Fine Art degree from the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design University. Eileen is inspired by watching artist communities evolve and flourish! Eileen has been an ongoing Arts Educator at the Elora Centre for the Arts as part of our Supportive Arts program for adults with (dis)abilities. Graduating with honuors from the prestigious Humber College Jazz Performance program\, Mike’s post secondary education also included part time classes in Jazz Performance at the University of Toronto and York University. \n\n\nDuring his post-secondary years\, Mike had the privilege of studying with a selection the finest jazz bassists in the world including Don Thompson\, Neil Swainson\, Dave Young and the legendary Ray Brown. \n\n\nIn the jazz world\, Mike has worked with many brilliant and accomplished professionals including David Braid\, Grant & Phil Stewart\, Reg Schwager\, Michael Occhipinti\, Pat LaBarbera\, Alex Dean\, Emily Calire Barlow\, Heather Bambrick and Mark McLean.   Equally proficient on electric bass\, Mike’s schedule finds him performing a wide variety of musical styles\, freelancing with many of Canada’s premier artists. In a diverse career that continues to showcase his talents as a consummate musician\, bassist Mike Pelletier’s unique versatility keeps him in demand. \n\n  \nSoprano Alexandra Lennox  has been performing with the Canadian Opera Company in Toronto for 24 seasons singing well over 150 productions in small roles\, understudying larger roles and as a full time member of the professional Chorus. Alexandra has a Vocal Performance diploma from the Royal Conservatory of music Glen Gould School\, a Vocal Performance BMus from the University of Toronto\,  and an ARCT in Voice from the Royal Conservatory of Music. A versatile singer\, dancer\, actor Ms. Lennox has won voice competitions and sung in television commercials for Shoppers Drug Mart\, Miller Beer\, Nescafe Coffee and Kraft Dressing. Operatic roles include; “Adele” in Die Fledermaus with TOT and Mississauga Opera\,  “Serpina” in La Serva Padrona with Barrie Opera\, “Musetta” in La Boheme with Co-Opera\, “Nellie” in Leo the Royal Cadet With TOT\, “The Voice” in Facing South with Tapestry\,  “Apparition” in Macbeth with COC\, “Strawberry Seller” in Death in Venice with COC and “The Cousin” in Madama Butterfly with COC\, and “soprano soloist” in The Nightingale with COC. Ms. Lennox has performed in musical theatre productions; as “Anne” in Anne of Green Gables\, “ Hodel” in Fiddler on the Roof\, “Liesl” in Sound of Music and many small and ensemble roles as both a singer\, actor and a dancer. Alexandra is a busy and sought after festival adjudicator. She has judged voice and choral classes at Pickering GTA Music Festival\, Kiwanis Festival of Sudbury\, Kingston Kiwanis Festival\, Peel Music Festival\, Arcadia Academy of Music Musicfest and Miriam Academy of music’s Music Festival. \nJuliette Alex Jones is an Ontario based composer & music director with a strong background in musical theatre and classical training. After graduating from Sheridan College’s Honours Bachelor of Music Theatre Performance program\, Juliette went on to compose and music direct for multiple companies\, festivals\, and clients across the GTA including The Musical Stage Co.\, YES Theatre\, Dandelion Theatre\, Nightwood Theatre\, and more. During the COVID-19 Pandemic\, Juliette found work as music assistant on the Netflix Adaptation of 13: The Musical by Jason Robert Brown where she worked alongside Broadway music directors Georgia Stitt and Lily Ling as well as Jason Robert Brown himself. \nJuliette started her music direction career while studying in college as the associate music director for The Threepenny Opera where she played\, conducted and arranged the show for a hodgepodge group of instruments played by the cast themselves. Promptly after the run of the show was finished\, Juliette was asked to music direct for Bravo Academy’s summer programs as well as for their regular season of advanced theatre troupe shows. Juliette also orchestrated and arranged Best of Hamilton Fringe’s show A Time of Future Tales and music directed Heresey for Paprika Festival and Last Year; One Year Later for Buddies in Bad Times Theatre. In her first year out of college\, Juliette returned to Sheridan as a voice teacher for the Preparatory Arts Diploma program and substitute taught vocal ensemble and vocal tech for George Brown Dance. Juliette also taught piano and voice for Bravo Academy and out of her own home studio. \nDuring her first stint of music direction in the GTA\, Juliette composed Flightpath for YES Theatre alongside theatre writing partner Griffin Hewitt and had the opportunity to have her first original show Peas\, Patrick & Parker produced for a 1 night reading at Buddies in Bad Times Theatre. Juliette also wrote the music for The Hands of Hypatia at Dandelion Theatre and wrote for Make Me A Song\, an educational initiative set up by The Musical Stage Co. Juliette is currently enrolled in the Scoring for Screen and Stage program at Sheridan College. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nDerrick Miller was born and raised in Fredericton\, New Brunswick. He attended Acadia University where he studied Music and English. Derrick went on to Graduate school at the Hartt School of Music in Connecticut. Roles included Gastone in La Traviata and Acis in Acis and Galatea. Mr. Miller played Tom Keeney in the US National Tour of the musical Funny Girl\, and performed in a season at the Merry-Go-Round Playhouse in Auburn\, NY in such shows as Camelot and Cabaret. Since moving to Toronto in 2001\, Derrick has been seen in The Sound of Music\, Les Miserables\, The Music Man\, among others.  Mr. Miller has also been a member of the prestigious Canadian Opera Company Chorus of professional singers since 2003. Derrick was the featured soloist at the Royal Nova Scotia International Tattoo for 6 years and has been in concert with the Saint Cecilia Concert Series and Opera Nova Scotia\, as well as with the Ceremonial Guard on Parliament Hill in Ottawa. In the Summer of 2010\, he recorded his second CD entitled “It Is Well”. This recording was nominated for 4 Music New Brunswick awards as well as an ECMA for Gospel Recording of the Year.
