DESCRIPTION:WINTER WEAVING WORKSHOP!  with Dianne Kennedy Cruttenden  \nSECOND CLASS ADDED! \nSATURDAY\, NOVEMBER 25\, 2023  |  9:30 AM – 3:30 PM \nAGES 14+  |  MAX 10 \nsold out\n$110 plus hst  *Please note\, there is a $30 kit fee\, payable in cash to the instructor at the start of class. \nJoin textile artist Dianne Kennedy Cruttenden for a full day of learning the basics of tapestry weaving! \nDuring this workshop\, students will be using 2 (canvas) looms.  In the morning students will work on a smaller canvas for a sampler of weaving techniques\, and in the afternoon the class will work on a larger canvas for their finished winter tapestry. Dianne will have winter theme designs participants can choose from or they may choose to do their own design. \n \nDianne brings her wealth of knowledge and spirit of adventure to this immersive 6-hour workshop. In this playful class you will explore weaving through a variety of tapestry techniques such as: plain weave\, rya knots\, soumack\, eccentric weave and irregular hatching. Participants will learn weaving techniques and some of Dianne’s favourite stitches to create designs while exploring form\, colour and texture. Dianne will have a variety of small looms to show you\, so you may continue your adventure in weaving by building a small loom yourself or purchase from a number of companies a finished loom. You will go home with a finished tapestry ready for hanging. \n*All supplies will be included in the kit fee. \n**Your kit will include a large selection of beautiful yarns\, 2 canvases that serve as the looms and frames your pieces. \n           \n\nMeet Dianne! \n \nDianne has been creating woven art since the early 1970’s. We’ll HI-5 those artful accidents and embrace our inner randomness in a day filled with free-styling projects designed to let loose our inner Picasso’s! \nThis school year\, we have expanded our PA Day program to accommodate 36 young artists! We will be dividing our PA Day kids into 2 groups (ages 4-6 and 7-12) and working in both our cheery Art Classroom and the sunny Sparrow’s Nest Maker Space . \nLed by ECFTA Art Educators Alexa Collette and Stephanie Lines-Toohill. Our PD days will be a balance of guided art instruction & learning in our art classroom\, and open-creative exploration in our maker space. Along with outdoor fresh air and play during breaks\, as always! \n \n\nAbout the Instructors \nAlexa Collette recently graduated from the BA program at the University of Guelph and has been facilitating workshops and camp experiences for the past few years and loving every minute of it! Alexa is a painter\, drawer\, loves creating murals\, and collaborating with the community. She is excited to create a space for art-making and exploration at the Elora Centre for the Arts! \n  \n  \n  \n  \n \nStephanie Lines-Toohill brings her magical mix of compassion\, creativity\, and mindfulness to everything she does. She reminds us to pause and find wonder in unexpected places. She helps us let go of our worries and to be brave. Steph also runs Sparrow’s Nest Makerspace\, a collaborative community space of connection. You might find her on a forest walk where she finds calming inspiration and beautiful found objects. Stephanie has been leading youth art groups and community art opportunities for over 15 years. DESCRIPTION:NIGHT GARDEN | PLANTS THAT KILL  \nPrintmaking for Adults | with Ray Fleming \nSUNDAY\, OCTOBER 22\, 2023  |  1:00-4:30 pm \nAGES 14+  |  MAX. 12  |   \n$55 + hst  |  All materials provided \n3 spots left!\nJoin artist and ECFTA team member\, Ray Fleming for an afternoon of DARK mark-making! \nWe will explore the shadowy world of plants that kill in this introduction to LINO BLOCK PRINTING. \nRay will offer a choice of three poisonous plants as your subject and guide you through the process of carving and lino block printing; the purple poison Acontium (Monkshood)\, Conium Maculatum (Hemlock)\, or the deadly Galerina mushroom. \n \nEach artist will have the opportunity to print up to five original images and go home with their lino block If they wish to continue carving more detail or pulling more prints. Perfect for anyone interested in the dark arts and learning a new skill! \nSource images will be provided. For anyone who has more experience or wishes to bring their own reference image/drawing\, this is welcomed. Keep in mind our time frame and make sure your design is simple enough to complete in class. Send us an email or bring along a photocopy. All materials included. \nMeet Ray! Join fibre artist Megan Cleland for a full day of learning the art of basket making and take home a beautiful hand-woven basket or bowl at the end class! \nIn this workshop you will learn how to make cordage from dried day lilies in the morning and in the afternoon turn that cordage into your own unique piece. \nYou will be ready to harvest or forage your own plant materials from your garden or nature walks this fall and hang to dry\, ready within days to create more hand-woven shapes to share with others! \n \nMeet Megan! \n \nMegan Cleland is a self-taught artist with a passion for felting. In 2000 Megan and her husband purchased a farm in Australia that came with 400 fine wool merinos. She started explored felting\, spinning\, and weaving for the sheer enjoyment of being surrounded by incredible fibres. Megan returned to Canada in 2008 and began to combine her love of portraiture and needle felting. Painting with wool to create realistic portraits and landscapes has been a natural progression from watercolour and pastel with exciting results. Participants will learn how to take their idea or source image from paper onto fabric in this introductory embroidery workshop. They will gain the knowledge of 8 hand-embroidery stitches that can be used to embellish their desired image on a 4” embroidery hoop. \n \nSince embroidery is a slow and mindful practice\, this workshop is designed to teach the basic skills and encourage participants to finish their design at home. All materials supplied. We will be completing in-class exercises and students will be encouraged to develop their own work at their own pace. We will be looking at the work of historical and contemporary artists for inspiration\, while exploring a variety of ways of working. \nClass will be guided for first 3 weeks. We will be dividing our PA Day kids into 2 groups (ages 4-6 and 7-12) and working in both our cheery Art Classroom and the sunny Sparrow’s Nest Maker Space . \nLed by ECFTA Art Educators Alexa Collette and Stephanie Lines-Toohill. Our PD days will be a balance of guided art instruction & learning in our art classroom\, and open-creative exploration in our maker space. Being lucky enough to grow up in Elora\, inspired by all the amazing artists in the community. \nTania is fascinated by the natural world\, enjoys making art with found objects and natural materials. Many moons ago she studied at the Kootenay School of the Arts in B.C\, for Fibre\, and Ceramics and at the Eugene Waldorf School\, in Eugene Oregon. \nAt any given time you can find her at the pottery wheel\, in the garden\, practising yoga\, and adventuring outside with the kids @freebirdnatureschool and at the Elora Centre for the Arts. \n \nIF YOU CANCEL \nCancellations up to 7 days prior to start date will receive a full refund\, less a $25 administrative fee.
