SUMMARY:COMMUNITY CONNECTIONS - Youth Outreach. Connecting to Schools Through Art for elementary & high school students
DESCRIPTION:COMMUNITY CONNECTIONS provides free arts programming to youth with intellectual and/or developmental delays in elementary and secondary school in the Life Skills and LRC classrooms.  We meet students once a month throughout the school year at Centre Wellington District Secondary School\, Elora Public School\, John Black Public School in Fergus\, Arthur Public School\, Victoria Cross Public School in Mount Forest\, and June Ave Public School in Guelph. \nLed by an ECFTA Arts Educator\, these sessions offer guided art instruction and contemporary art ideas to students in Centre and North Wellington. \n \nThe program is free to students.  Project themes are centered around community building and emphasize collaboration and success through personal artistic expression. The goal is connecting students to the community in meaningful and creative ways! \nWhy is this program important? \nStudents with developmental delays experience added challenges in feeling supported within the school system and the broader community. These children and youth also have limited access to arts-based resources within schools due to the continued erosion of arts funding. \nThis program strives to engage the emotional and social well-being of students through art making that connects them with community initiatives\, helping them experience community life beyond school. \nThis project arose in response to teachers of LRC and Life Skills students in our area and aligns with our goal of supporting community needs through the arts. Our goal is that students feel more connected and included in their community through the art-making process! \n\n  \nThe 2019 Vital Signs Report demonstrates the need for this program as follows: \n\nOnly 41% of students feel a sense of belonging to their community through school;\nAccessibility to the arts continues to be a barrier for many;\nYouth mental health is a particular vulnerability; and\nConnection to the community is listed as a preventative factor against suicide.\n\nFunding for this program is made possible thanks to the generosity of the Harry E. Foster Charitable Foundation the Johansen-Larsen Foundation and the Centre Wellington Community Foundation. Thank you! \n  \n\nProgram Insights \nEach year\, we discover that as the year progressed\, students gained an appreciation for each other’s work. The collective art making environment allows the students to locate their individuality within a larger group context in a very direct way by comparing how they resolved their works\, and how their classmates may have made different choices. \nThis form of communication and introspection is unique to collective art-making\, that allows for participants to see themselves in the context of others. It is a wonderful opportunity for those who often find it difficult to connect with groups\, to find a common language when looking at and discussing each other’s work. \nStudents with limited verbal communication are able to be a part of a visual conversation that values the uniqueness of perspective and diverse ways of making. \n  \n  \n\nFor more information about this program please contact us at:  programming@ecfta.ca \nTo help support this program by donating today\, please click here.

SUMMARY:'The Secret Garden' presented by the Elora Community Theatre (matinee performance)
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an open-air performance in the beautiful yard at the Elora Centre for the Arts\, presented on the pavilion stage by the Elora Community Theatre! \n \nTHE SECRET GARDEN based on the novel by Frances Hodgson Burnett. \nMary Lennox\, a spoiled\, ill-tempered\, and unhealthy child\, comes to live with her reclusive uncle at Misselthwaite Manor on England’s Yorkshire moors after the death of her parents in India. There she meets a hearty housekeeper and her spirited brother\, a cheerful robin\, and her willful\, hysterical\, and sickly cousin\, Master Colin\, whose wails she hears echoing through the house at night. \nWith the help of the robin\, Mary finds the door to a secret garden\, neglected and hidden for years. SUMMARY:Opening Reception - meet Eileen MacArthur as she launches 'Eden'
DESCRIPTION:Join us in the gallery as we officially reveal Eileen MacArthur’s new exhibition\, ‘Eden’.  These works invite us to see parts of nature—like flowers and trees—as if they have human qualities. By doing this\, we can think about how people relate to each other and the world around them. Nature isn’t shown as separate or alone\, but as part of a bigger community. The natural elements become a way to talk not just about individual experiences\, but also about the dynamics of groups and how we all connect in society. \nRefreshments will be served\, admission is free.  Drop in and say hello\, mingle and help uplift the arts\, and our community of artists!

SUMMARY:'Open Sky Live' - Live at the Arts Centre - featuring Harry Lee Follon
DESCRIPTION:Join us for Harry Lee Follon live on the MacDonald Pavilion Stage at the Arts Centre! This performance is presented in partnership with Wrighthaven Homes. \nYou won’t want to miss the classic sound and memorable melodies of Harry Lee Follon on the stage!  And who doesn’t love a fiddle and pedal steel!?   \nFollon’s music is inspired by the likes of John Prine and Townes Van Zandt\, although he says that he’s also inspired by younger artists working in that tradition such as Jeffery Martin and Joe Pug\, as well as fellow Canadians Spencer Burton and Zachary Lucky. \n \nThe ‘Open Sky’ series is presented in partnership with our friends at Tribute Homes\, Sorbara Group of Companies and Storybrook Homes. \nFOOD TRUCK ON SITE FOR THIS EVENT!  Enjoy tacos from the delicious Milagro Food Truck! \nAbout the Artist \nWith his thick grey beard and ubiquitous wide-brimmed hat\, Harry Lee Follon looks like a man transplanted from a previous century. But that timeless image is the ideal reflection of his music—pure\, honest songs that are as emotionally resonant in 2024 as they would have been in 1924.  His new album ‘Uncle’s Lament’ was just released in June!  “The overall feeling while listening to Uncle’s Lament is something close to sitting in a front parlour enjoying good friends playing music together” – Canadian Beats \n✨ Bonus: Our camper bar will be open at each event\, serving up refreshing drinks to keep the good vibes flowing! 🍺 \nSee you under the open sky! \n\n\n🎶 ‘Open Sky’ Concert Series Highlights: \n\n\nWhen: Every other Thursday from 6-9 PM\, all summer long \n\n\nWhere: MacDonald Pavilion Stage in the yard at the Elora Centre for the Arts \n\n\nCost: FREE (donations appreciated!). SUMMARY:'Open Sky Live' - Live at the Arts Centre - featuring James Gray
DESCRIPTION:Join us for James Gray live on the MacDonald Pavilion Stage at the Arts Centre! This performance is presented in partnership with Granite Homes. \nJames Gray is a contemporary version of an old-school traveling folk singer. In the past decade\, Gray has toured Canada\, Europe and Australia\, seeing the world and sharing his beloved songs along the way. Galvanized by the idea to speak to the human condition through the creation and delivery of song\, Gray draws from his deep love of legendary songwriters such as John Prine\, Townes Van Zandt\, Gillian Welch\, to guide him. \n \nThe ‘Open Sky’ series is presented in partnership with our friends at Tribute Homes\, Sorbara Group of Companies and Storybrook Homes. \nAbout the Artist \nA unique finger style guitarist\, with a vocal that is hauntingly beautiful\, Gray\, often accompanied by a rather droll\, humorous stage patter\, immerses himself in each and every song with a soulfulness and attack that is infectious and disarming. With a broad grin and good natured chuckle\, Gray\nwill often smile into the microphone and state matter of factly that he wants you to remember who he is. \nGray’s third album is entitled “New Friends That Talk Like Old Friends”. This collection of songs born in His tiny Muskoka cabin is a reflection of the incredible people and experiences that James has come across in his travels. \nNotably\, James has been a musical guest at TED Talks held on the west coast of Canada. Music from his three albums receives regular airplay on CBC radio programs including Fresh Air with Nana Aba Duncan and Ontario Morning with Wei Chen. He has garnered extensive airplay regionally and throughout Canada.  Visit his website here. \n  \n✨ Bonus: Our camper bar will be open at each event\, serving up refreshing drinks to keep the good vibes flowing! Cash Bar (credit/debit also accepted on site)\n(Every dollar supports our exciting new expansion project!) \n\n\nJoin us for 8 Thursday evenings of live music under the open sky\, right from our scenic pavilion stage. Bring your picnic blanket or lawn chair\, relax as the sun sets behind the stage\, and soak in performances by an incredible lineup of talented musicians\, curated by Riverfest Elora! Connect with friends\, neighbours and fellow music lovers — it’s the perfect summer tradition. Find out more \n\n🎉 A huge thank you to our amazing volunteers and generous sponsors who make this concert series possible.
