SUMMARY:COMMUNITY CONNECTIONS - Youth Outreach. Connecting to Schools Through Art for elementary & high school students
DESCRIPTION:COMMUNITY CONNECTIONS provides free arts programming to youth with intellectual and/or developmental delays in elementary and secondary school in the Life Skills and LRC classrooms.  We meet students once a month throughout the school year at Centre Wellington District Secondary School\, Elora Public School\, John Black Public School in Fergus\, Arthur Public School\, Victoria Cross Public School in Mount Forest\, and June Ave Public School in Guelph. \nLed by an ECFTA Arts Educator\, these sessions offer guided art instruction and contemporary art ideas to students in Centre and North Wellington. \n \nThe program is free to students.  Project themes are centered around community building and emphasize collaboration and success through personal artistic expression. The goal is connecting students to the community in meaningful and creative ways! \nWhy is this program important? \nStudents with developmental delays experience added challenges in feeling supported within the school system and the broader community. These children and youth also have limited access to arts-based resources within schools due to the continued erosion of arts funding. \nThis program strives to engage the emotional and social well-being of students through art making that connects them with community initiatives\, helping them experience community life beyond school. \nThis project arose in response to teachers of LRC and Life Skills students in our area and aligns with our goal of supporting community needs through the arts. Our goal is that students feel more connected and included in their community through the art-making process! \n\n  \nThe 2019 Vital Signs Report demonstrates the need for this program as follows: \n\nOnly 41% of students feel a sense of belonging to their community through school;\nAccessibility to the arts continues to be a barrier for many;\nYouth mental health is a particular vulnerability; and\nConnection to the community is listed as a preventative factor against suicide.\n\nFunding for this program is made possible thanks to the generosity of the Harry E. Foster Charitable Foundation the Johansen-Larsen Foundation and the Centre Wellington Community Foundation. Thank you! \n  \n\nProgram Insights \nEach year\, we discover that as the year progressed\, students gained an appreciation for each other’s work. The collective art making environment allows the students to locate their individuality within a larger group context in a very direct way by comparing how they resolved their works\, and how their classmates may have made different choices. \nThis form of communication and introspection is unique to collective art-making\, that allows for participants to see themselves in the context of others. It is a wonderful opportunity for those who often find it difficult to connect with groups\, to find a common language when looking at and discussing each other’s work. \nStudents with limited verbal communication are able to be a part of a visual conversation that values the uniqueness of perspective and diverse ways of making. \n  \n  \n\nFor more information about this program please contact us at:  programming@ecfta.ca \nTo help support this program by donating today\, please click here.

SUMMARY:Meet the artists of "Sticks and Stones" Opening Reception
DESCRIPTION:Opening Reception: Olivia Mae Sinclair & Alek Bélanger\nAn Exhibition of Story\, Resilience & Renewal\nAdmission is Free \nYou’re invited to join us for the opening reception of a compelling new exhibition featuring the works of two incredible artists: Olivia Mae Sinclair and Alek Bélanger. \nThis dynamic exhibition brings together Sinclair’s richly layered textiles\, emotive paintings\, and evocative photography with Belanger’s powerful visual reclamation—where poetic affirmations are embedded on pages pulled from gay conversion therapy books\, alongside large-scale photographic works that challenge and inspire. \n \nWe first encountered Olivia Mae Sinclair and Alek Bélanger at the Artist Project in Toronto\, where each artist was featured individually. Their work—intimate\, courageous\, and deeply human—resonated with us. We knew immediately we wanted to bring them together for a group show here at The Arts Centre. They enthusiastically accepted the invitation\, eager to share their unique voices and creative practices with our community. \nCurated in collaboration with Sylvia Galbraith\, this exhibition invites reflection on transformation\, identity\, and the power of artistic expression to reframe narratives and spark dialogue. \nJoin us in the gallery for refreshments\, engaging conversation\, and the opportunity to meet both artists in person. Be among the first to experience this thoughtful and vibrant presentation of work—and (hopefully!) leave seeing the world in a slightly new way. \nWe can’t wait to welcome you.

SUMMARY:BREAKING BOUNDARIES: USING LIMITATIONS TO EXPAND CREATIVITY IN PAINTING WITH AHMRI VANDEBORNE
DESCRIPTION:Find out how creative you can be when you set your own rules while painting! What happens when you only use two colours? Or when you have to use a tiny paint brush on a large canvas? Or when you use dice to choose what type of lines you paint and what colours you use? \nIn this workshop\, participants will learn about the famous conceptual artist\, Sol Lewitt\, whose wall drawings have been recreated by all types of people based on his instructions. Each time the works are recreated\, whether by the artist himself or other artists\, volunteers\, or assistants\, they are a unique iteration – proving that following a set of guidelines can burst creative boundaries. \n \nUsing warm-up exercises and learning about basic painting techniques\, participants will be inspired to create their own set of rules or guidelines to help inspire a new painting to take home. \nThough not mandatory\, if participants are interested in trying their hand at manipulating an image through painting\, they are encouraged to bring their own image with them (printed\, or on a phone) to work from.  \nArtist Ahmri Vandeborne will guide artists in a playful evening workshop setting limitations on tools and processes to help expand your creativity. Ahmri will offer examples of different types of processes that could be used to set limitations\, artists will then choose “how” they would like to paint and create an image based on the guidelines they’ve set for themselves.          \nLet’s gather to make something unique and think outside the box! \nNo experience necessary.  \nPlease note\, there is a $10 kits fee payable in cash to the instructor at the start of class. All materials included in the kit fee. \nContact us for more info!

Hailing from Elora\, Ontario\, his affinity for music began when he was a young boy\, but it wasn’t until he started traveling at the age of 18 that he found his true voice. \nHe draws inspiration from his experiences on the road\, the blend of jazz\, country\, ragtime and blues\, creating a whole that is entirely his own. Music will always feel like home to Jiggity James\, whether he’s road-tripping across Canada or travelling around Europe. His recent releases including “Tango to Calamity\,” “Gringo\,” and “That Stare” are available wherever good music is streamed.
