Learn how to take an abstract idea from paper to fabric in this easy-going\, loose and freestyle approach to embroidery! \n \nThe evening will begin with a brief overview of contemporary and historical abstract art to help inspire your imagery and design a concept. Participants will be guided through simple hand embroidery stitches to help embellish their design and will be encouraged to trust intuition while working on an abstract piece. \nThis 3-hour workshop teaches basic embroidery skills and encourages participants to finish their design at home. Join this guided two-part workshop where you’ll explore the beauty of pyrography on paper. Learn how to create consistent lines\, intricate patterns\, and beautiful shading using burning techniques—all in a relaxed\, creative environment. No prior experience needed!  \n \nDay 1: Exploring Paper & Techniques \nBegin your journey into paper pyrography by understanding the unique qualities of various papers including Fabriano\, Arches and more. You’ll learn to choose the right paper—such as sizing\, weight\, texture of paper—to ensure optimal results. Techniques like stippling\, hatching\, and gradient burning will be introduced to add depth and texture to your designs. Additionally\, you’ll discover how to incorporate colour using watercolour to enhance your artwork. \nDay 2: Creating Artwork \nOn the second day\, you’ll apply the skills acquired to create a detailed pyrography artwork on professional paper in an 8×10 format. This Minecraft-inspired world of pixel imagination is perfect for artists who love to block. \nWhether you’re a master builder or just love being creative\, artists Eileen MacArthur and Stephanie Lines-Toohill will guide this hands-on\, class blends art with the fun of the game! No gaming experience needed\, just a love for building\, crafting\, and storytelling! \n \nThis is a device-free workshop. \nOur PA Days are designed to inspire 36 young artists through a full-day of creativity and exploration! \nLed by ECFTA Arts Educators and student staff\, we will work in 2 groups in both our cheery Art Classroom and sunny Sparrow’s Nest Maker Space.
