Led by ECFTA Arts Educators and staff\, we will spend the week in both in our cheery Art Classroom and sunny Sparrow’s Nest Maker Space. \nWe offer a balance of guided art instruction and open-flow creative exploration\, along with outdoor fresh air and play! \n  \nTo ensure that your child is ready for a full day of art making and fun: \n\nA healthy mid-morning snack + and lunch.\nWe will offer a nut-free snack towards the end of each day to keep the energy going!\nRefillable water bottle\nDress for the weather and for art making!\n\n  \nAt the Elora Centre for the Arts\, we strive to support ALL children who would like to attend our programs! DESCRIPTION:Join Pyrography artist Heather Martin of FireWork Designs for an introduction to the art of burning on paper! In this interactive 2-Sunday afternoon class students will have an opportunity to explore and practice creating consistent lines\, patterns\, and shading with burning on paper! \n \nBoth classes will begin with warm-up practice.  Week 1 will include practice burning on a few small samples of paper. By the end of day one artists will aim to have their burning complete and be ready to add color for week 2!  Week 2 will start by experimenting with layering colour (watercolour\, acrylic\, and ink) and masking using the same sample papers. \nOver the two Sundays\, Heather will offer guidance on: \n\npaper types and how they’re made\nwhich paper is safe to burn on and what to look for in selecting paper\ncomparison of Strathmore\, Stonehenge\, and hot vs cold press papers\nhow to prepare paper and experiment with layering other mediums\n\nNo experience necessary! \nPlease note\, there is a $10 kit fee\, payable in cash to the instructor at the start of class. The accumulation of her interests is quite apparent in her work. DESCRIPTION:At last! Teeny Tiny Bakery joins us to share the love of mini decorated-cookie masterpieces! Join cookie artist Jackie Long for a fun and playful evening workshop to learn the art of decorating cookie-tops\, themed to the Holidays! \nIn this beginner decorating class we will create 10-12 Holiday themed cookies\, in varying sizes.  All materials are included in your kit fee\, so just relax and create!  We will cover topics of baking\, royal icing\, piping bags\, flooding\, wet-on-wet decorating\, and storage.  \nWe have 12 spaces available. DESCRIPTION:AGES 5-12  |  MAX 36     \n$70  |  No hst \nLet’s explore the wild and wonderful surreal world of Salvadore Dali through his mysterious Melting Clocks landscapes! \n Young artists will learn about weird world of Surrealism and how artists use dreams to create strange artworks with hidden meanings. We will also be looking at some of the methods artists use to express complex ideas\, such as frottage and finding images in abstract marks. Get ready to dally with Dali! \n \nOur PA days are designed to inspire 36 young artists each PA Day. Led by ECFTA Arts Educators and student staff\, we work in 2 groups (younger and older) in both our cheery Art Classroom and the sunny Sparrow’s Nest Maker Space.  \nPA days are a balance of guided art instruction and open-creative exploration\, along with outdoor fresh air and play during breaks\, as always! \nTo ensure that your child is ready for a full day of art making and fun! \n\nA healthy morning snack and lunch\nRefillable water bottle\nDress for the weather and for art making\n\n\nAt the Elora Centre for the Arts\, we strive to support ALL children who would like to attend our programs! Inspired by the Neo-Expressionist work of American pop-culture icon Jean-Michel Basquiat\, we will be using a variety of materials and approaches to explore how artists convey emotions and ideas. This workshop is all about using an abstract painting approach and getting a little messy! No experience necessary! \n \nEileen will guide students in techniques for mark-making and image transfers onto an 8”x10” canvas (provided)\, as well as composition\, and layering. \nPlease bring along colour and/or black and white photocopies of your pets\, in a range of sizes. Heather has been woodburning for almost a decade and her passion for creating shows in her unique wood-burned designs using a mix of locally sourced woods and on paper. Working with the lines and patterns inherent to wood and the slow\, immersive process of woodburning\, Heather is drawn to the extensive depth and texture attainable within a medium that is almost sculptural. \nHeather completed her Bachelor of Arts at University of Toronto and Sheridan Institute in Art and Art History where she specialized in Sculpture\, Print Media and Photography. The accumulation of her interests is quite apparent in her work. Her burnings are available in a variety of forms from wall art to functional items such as charcuterie boards\, spoons\, ornaments and more. Heather sells her work at Local Pieces Gallery in Downtown Fergus and local markets where she often demonstrates her woodburning practice.  Heather enjoys sharing her passion for woodburning in classes and workshops of up to 25 people. DESCRIPTION:AGES 14+  |  MAX 12 \n$65 per person + HST  |  All materials provided \nJoin multi-disciplinary artist and Elora-good-egg Peter Skoggard for a playful introduction to chalk pastel! \nPeter has drawn over a thousand pastel self-portraits\, and a further two hundred portraits of local characters over the past 4 years\, so he has learned how to take the fear out of one of the most difficult subjects: the human face! \n \nPeter will begin the class with an introduction to materials with a light-hearted exercise; Draw a zucchini! Draw two marbles! Add cherry tomato cheeks or a red chili pepper mouth\, all on an oval plate! Voila! A face! \nThe remainder of the class\, students will be working from their own source photo using chalk pastels on toned pastel paper to create their own loose and lively portrait or self-portrait. \n\nStudents are asked to bring a source photo for their portrait.\nMirrors are available in the classroom for those who wish to tackle a self-portrait.\n\nAll materials are included and all levels of ability are welcome. \n\nMeet Peter! \n\nPeter is a composer\, poet\, and visual artist living in Elora since 1985.
