DESCRIPTION:THE NEST!  THURSDAY AFTER-SCHOOL MAKER SPACE FOR TWEENS! \nFOR AGES 10+  |  Maximum 20 spots \nWINTER PROGRAM  |  JANUARY 19– March 30\, 2023 \nTHURSDAYS 3:30-5:30 \n*no session during March Break\, Thursday\, March 16. \n$5 PER SESSION  |  $50 for the entire 10 week session  \nRegister for all 10 weeks (no single date sign-ups or drop in).  \n**Please note\, The Nest will NOT run on School Closure Days. \nThe Nest WILL run on No Bus days 🙂 \nsold out\n \nThis is a subsidized program\, thanks to the generosity of our community on Giving Tuesday 2022 and donations received at our summer Creative Spark in the Yard event!   The actual cost per class is $17 per child ($170 per session).  If you are able to pay more for the program\, please consider making a discretionary donation towards future outreach programs at the Centre here. \nIf you would like to sign up for The Nest after the start date\, please contact us to arrange details!  Payment will be prorated. \nThe Nest After School Program for Tweens! \nA space to relax and create in our cheery classroom at the Elora Centre for the Arts! \nJust bring YOU! This is an open flow\, gender diverse space for gently guided creativity and gathering with friends. Student led projects will be guided by an ECFTA Arts Facilitators and volunteers. In fact\, sometimes it’s the best thing about making art! Innovation requires failure and “mistakes” can be a great starting place\, so we’ll HI-5 those artful accidents and embrace randomness in a day filled with thought-provoking projects designed to let loose our inner Picasso’s! \n \nLed by ECFTA Arts Educator Kristine May. \nKristine May has over 20 years experience designing and implementing expressive art workshops\, classes and educational art programs within galleries\, art centres\, community outreach and both the public & private school system\, Kris is dedicated to exploring the link between the arts and wellbeing; committed to inspiring others through creative outlets.  Her goal is to promote the benefits of creative expression and provide opportunities for all individuals to tap into their own innate creativity\, where they are free to explore and expand their creative pursuits and potential. Woodburning\, however\, requires various different techniques to create texture\, lines and tonal values and is a much slower process. \nJoin Pyrography Artist Heather Martin of FireWork Designs to begin or expand your knowledge of woodburning while you create your own usable\, giftable cherry or ambrosia maple charcuterie board. \nHeather will guide you through various woodburning techniques to incorporate texture and interest to your piece. You will also learn about recommended woods and other helpful hints as you work your way through this immersive process. \nIt’s always fun to learn with a friend\, with no experience in drawing or woodburning\, this makes the perfect class to relax and enjoy the afternoon together! No Experience Necessary. \nAll materials provided: 8x10inch Charcuterie Board\, 1oz Board Cream \n \nAbout the artist: \nHeather Martin of FireWork Designs\, is a practicing Pyrography Artist in Fergus Ontario that has been woodburning for almost a decade. Her passion for creating is shown in her unique woodburned designs completed on a mix of locally sourced woods. The pyrography classes Heather teaches are perfect for beginners or seasoned pyrography students that are ready to bring their art to the next level. \nFrom the lines and patterns naturally in the wood to the slow immersive process of woodburning. Heather is drawn to the extensive depth and texture attainable with the medium that is almost sculptural. Heather completed her Bachelor’s of Arts at University of Toronto and Sheridan Institute in Art and Art History. She specialized in Sculpture\, Print Media and Photography. The accumulation of her interests are quite apparent in her work. This workshop is suitable for all levels of experience\, so come explore\, experiment and get those creative juices going! \n \nMaterials List (students to bring) \n2 Cradled or flat wood panels.
