SUMMARY:Artist Talk - Motivation & Inspiration! with artist Eva McCauley
DESCRIPTION:Are you looking for some creative inspiration?  A bit of motivation to rejuvenate your artistic practice?  Does your soul need to be filled with the energy from other creative people in our community?  Are you just looking for some balance in your life\, a way of welcoming creativity into your mindset?  If you answered yes to any of the above\, please JOIN US for this FREE Artist Talk with Eva McCauley this summer! \n \nEva’s exhibition ‘Splendid Isolation’ will be showcased in our main gallery this summer\, and she has graciously agreed to host an Artist Talk evening during the show.  She will talk about the motivation behind her new series\, her influences\, painting methods and process.  She will share about her inspiration and ways she was able to execute her ideas when faced with distractions and creative roadblocks. \nEveryone is welcome to attend!  No registration required.  Ideal for both artists and art appreciators!  Free. \nAbout Eva McCauley: \n \nEva McCauley is a painter and printmaker known for her atmospheric\, expressive paintings of sky\, water and shifting landscapes that explore the passage of time and the transient and ephemeral nature of the spiritual and physical world. She is also a figurative artist\, and is fascinated with the human condition\, and the fragility of our existence. She divides her time between her studios in Bear River\, N.S.\, and Elmira\, Ontario\, painting people and places that are steeped in personal significance. \nHer work explores the process of recollection and how we process memories. Her focus is not on the recreation of a specific image or moment\, but the creation of something informed by the act of remembering — an act which renders past experiences as ephemeral\, and constantly in flux\, resulting in works which perpetually shift\, their images lyrical\, ghost-like\, and ethereal. \nShe studied visual art at the Ontario College of Art and Design\, receiving an O.C.A.D. diploma in drawing & painting (1983)\, a B.F.A. from University of Guelph (1994) and a M.F.A. from University of Waterloo (1996). \nShe has exhibited internationally and nationally\, with solo exhibitions at ArtsPlace Gallery in Annapolis Royal\, N.S.\, (Splendid Isolation\, 2021)\, St. Thomas Elgin Art Centre (World’s Edge\, 2014);  Wandesford Quay Gallery in Cork (In/Visible\, Aug/Sept. 2012); Limerick Printmakers (In/Visible\, August/Sept. 2010); Elora Centre for the Arts\, Elora\, Ontario\, and Harbinger Gallery\, Waterloo (Solas agus Scáth‎\, 2009)\,   Kitchener Waterloo Art Gallery (Momento Mori); Open Studio\, Toronto (Ruptured Time); Bau-Xi Gallery\, Toronto (Colour of Memory\, Mutable as Water\, Gaze); and solo and group exhibitions at Harbinger Gallery\, Waterloo; Kitchener Waterloo Art Gallery 2nd Biennale (2005); and the Castellani Museum in Lewiston\, N.Y. (Crossing Borders). Her work is included in collections in Canadian Embassies all over the world and is part of a Canadian boxed set collection sponsored by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. \nMcCauley is the recipient of many awards and scholarships\, including the W.O. Forsythe Painting Award (1983)\, Bronfman Printmaking Award (1993)\, Warner Lambert Printmaking Scholarship (1994) “Best in Printmaking Award” at the Toronto Outdoor Art Exhibition (1996)\, “Ernst & Young Purchase Award” (1996)\, a Canada Council “Quest” Grant for Emerging Artists (2000)\, as well as an Ontario Council Project Grant (2007). Her work can be found in many private and public collections such as the Kitchener Waterloo Art Gallery\, Wilfrid Laurier University\, Canadian Ministry of Foreign Affairs\, Waterloo Regional Labour Council\, and the Ernst & Young Canadian Print Collection. \nShe is an art educator\, and has been a sessional professor of Fine Art at the University of Waterloo since 2002. \nTo find out more about Eva\, please visit her website.

SUMMARY:Joyful Mending: The Art of Visible Mending Workshop
DESCRIPTION:JOYFUL MENDING! THE ART OF VISIBLE MENDING WORKSHOP \nWITH DIANNE KENNEDY-CRUTTENDEN \nAges 16+  |  MAX. 10 participants \n$80 + HST \nIn this one day workshop we will celebrate the mends and embellishments that bring new life to old clothes and favourite textiles to create “beautiful scars for the loved but torn”. Let’s mend that favourite T-shirt\, pair of jeans or blanket! It takes 2\,700 litres of water to produce ONE T-shirt. Let’s repair our wonderful textiles instead of buying another or adding them to landfill. \n \nThere are so many methods of mending various woven and knitted fabrics. Explore all of these with Dianne and let her share with you her favourite embroidery\, sashiko\, and darning stitches. \nYou will create a sampler of stitches and then continue onto working on individual mending projects and/or create a selection of patches that can be used in future repairs or embellishments. \nIf you don’t have anything to mend\, Dianne will show you how to make wonderful patches that you can use in the future or even frame as a little piece of art. \nWhat to Bring: \n\nsomething you’d like to patch\, repair or embellish.\nscissors\nsewing needles for embroidery\na variety of embroidery floss and/or yarn to repair your piece\nfabric and or squares of felt for making patches\n5”-6” embroidery hoop\n\nIf you do not have any of the above\, Dianne will have lots of yarn\, floss\, fabric etc. available for purchase. \nShe will also have a variety of mending tools you can experiment with during the class. \n\nAbout the Instructor \nDianne Kennedy Cruttenden has been creating woven tapestries and clothing since 1970. She has honed her skill over the decades\, often carding\, dyeing and spinning her own yarn. Dianne has taught weaving over the years throughout North America\, from the Canadian Arctic to the United States. \n@dkcweaver (IG) @Dianne Kennedy-Cruttenden (FB) \n  \n  \n  \nHealth & Safety \nTo ensure the health and safety of staff and participants\, daily cleaning and masking will be in place to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience. SUMMARY:Sylvia Galbraith Photography Workshop presents "Photography Skills Level 1"
DESCRIPTION:Sylvia Galbraith Photography Workshop presents “Photography Skills Level 1” \nThis is an 8-week course on Tuesdays from October 5 – November 23\, 2021  |  7:00 – 10:00 PM \nClasses will be held in the classroom at the Elora Centre for the Arts\, and will run in-person following Public Health guidelines. \nAbout the Course:\n\n\nBased on my Conestoga College courses\, this introductory level 8-week course is the first in a series of four courses that include Photography Skills – Levels 1 & 2\,  Digital Imaging – Photoshop Levels 1 & 2\, as well as single workshops such as Documentary Photography and The Photographic Art Form. This first course of the series is suitable for those with no experience.  You will gain confidence with your camera to be able to shoot in any situation\, and is the first step in learning photography skills that can take you beyond the hobbyist or amateur level.  We’ll cover everything from lenses to exposure settings\, as well as lighting\, file formats\, focus and much more.  You must have either a DSLR or advanced mirrorless camera for this course.  \n\n \n\n\nSuitable for: dedicated amateur or hobbyist photographers\, anyone who requires photographic skills for their profession\, or for those looking to begin a career in photography.Class sizes are limited to allow for distancing\, register early to avoid disappointment.\n\n\n\nRegister online by clicking here.\nEarly Bird registration – before Sept. 5\, 2021: $365.00 + HST\nAfter Sept. 5\, 2021: $395.00 + HST \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout the Instructor:\n\nSYLVIA GALBRAITH\, based in Fergus\, ON\, is a professional photographer whose traditional methods of image creation are joined with a contemporary practice of using video and installation.  She has worked with several art forms over the years including oils\, charcoal and clay\, but found that the restrictions inherent to the camera inspired and challenged her more than any other art form.  Her current practice demonstrates a deep connection with the landscapes and people found in some of Canada’s loneliest places. Galbraith has participated in residencies in Newfoundland\, Banff and Northern Ontario\, and has exhibited her work in solo shows as well as in numerous group exhibitions across Canada. She has photographs in corporate\, public and private collections throughout Canada\, and internationally\, and has received many awards and bursaries for her work. \nGalbraith has taught photography courses throughout Canada\, including for the University of Toronto\, University of Brandon\, MB\, Humber College\, and various arts organizations. She has been an Associate Faculty Member for Conestoga College’s Commercial Photography Certificate Program for the past 11 years. In response to the need for higher level photography training as local colleges and universities reduce their course offerings\, she has developed a series of courses that are based on the college-level programs she has developed over the years for various educational institutions.  Suitable for serious hobbyists\, those requiring photographic skills for their profession\, or those planning a career in photography\, this program includes training in camera skills\, studio photography and in digital editing. \nIn addition to her artistic practice\, Galbraith is actively involved in the arts community; she was a photographer for the Bonavista Biennale (2017 & 2019\, Newfoundland)\, and served a two-year term on the Board of Directors for the Elora Centre for the Arts. She is a member of The Elora Arts Council\, The Guelph Arts Council\, CARFAC\, and Gallery 44 Centre for Contemporary Photography in Toronto. Galbraith also curates exhibitions for corporate venues throughout the GTA and locally\, and is involved with the annual Scotiabank Contact Photography Festival in Toronto\, both as an artist and a curator. \n\n\nFor more information about Sylvia please visit her website.
