DESCRIPTION:WINTER WEAVING WORKSHOP!  with Dianne Kennedy Cruttenden \nSaturday\, November 18\, 2023  |  9:30 AM – 3:30 PM \nAGES 14+  |  MAX 10 \nsold out\n$110 plus hst  *Please note\, there is a $30 kit fee\, payable in cash to the instructor at the start of class. \nJoin textile artist Dianne Kennedy Cruttenden for a full day of learning the basics of tapestry weaving! \nDuring this workshop\, students will be using 2 (canvas) looms.  In the morning students will work on a smaller canvas for a sampler of weaving techniques\, and in the afternoon the class will work on a larger canvas for their finished winter tapestry. Dianne will have winter theme designs participants can choose from or they may choose to do their own design. \n \nDianne brings her wealth of knowledge and spirit of adventure to this immersive 6-hour workshop. In this playful class you will explore weaving through a variety of tapestry techniques such as: plain weave\, rya knots\, soumack\, eccentric weave and irregular hatching. Participants will learn weaving techniques and some of Dianne’s favourite stitches to create designs while exploring form\, colour and texture. Dianne will have a variety of small looms to show you\, so you may continue your adventure in weaving by building a small loom yourself or purchase from a number of companies a finished loom. You will go home with a finished tapestry ready for hanging. \n*All supplies will be included in the kit fee. \n**Your kit will include a large selection of beautiful yarns\, 2 canvases that serve as the looms and frames your pieces. \n           \n\nMeet Dianne! \n \nDianne has been creating woven art since the early 1970’s. Dianne first studied weaving at Sheridan School of Design\, apprenticed with Robert L. Kidd in Michigan and in 2015 completed an internship with Master Tapestry artist Maximo Laura in his studio in Lima\, Peru. A great way to continue your weaving journey!  Just bring your enthusiasm! \n \nIf you have ideas and images you wish to work with\, bring them along! \nWe will be working on 13” x 17” frame looms and learn how to warp the loom and use ‘butterflies’ (yarn bundles). DESCRIPTION:WEAVING 201 | EXPRESS YOURSELF THROUGH TAPESTRY  \nWITH DIANNE KENNEDY CRUTTENDEN \nSunday\, April 14\, 2024  |  9:30 am to 4 pm \nAGES 14+  |  MAX 10  |  $110 + hst   \n$30 kit fee  |  All materials included in the kit fee. \nsold out \nWeaving 201 is designed for those with some weaving experience who wish to dive into designing and creating woven tapestry. To support weavers on this journey\, Dianne will review techniques\, answer your questions\, and discuss a variety of designing techniques. \nThis workshop will give you the opportunity to experiment with various methods and materials. A great way to continue your weaving journey!  Just bring your enthusiasm! \nIf you have ideas and images you wish to work with\, bring them along! \nWe will be working on 13” x 17” frame looms and learn how to warp the loom and use ‘butterflies’ (yarn bundles). Dianne will offer a variety of beautiful yarns for your weaving pleasure including a selection of her hand dyed and hand spun yarn\, unspun wool\, and even some strips of fabric and ribbon yarns to play with. You should be well along the way of creating your masterpiece by the end of the day! \nThis workshop is ideal for those with basic weaving experience or those who have taken one of Dianne’s beginner workshops. \nBring your sense of adventure\, willingness to play with design\, colour and texture! \nPlease note: $30 kit fee to be paid to Dianne at the start of the workshop. \nMeet Dianne! \n \nDianne has been creating woven art since the early 1970’s. Dianne first studied weaving at Sheridan School of Design\, apprenticed with Robert L. Kidd in Michigan and in 2015 completed an internship with Master Tapestry artist Maximo Laura in his studio in Lima\, Peru. A lifetime of weaving; Dianne’s work has been shown and collected throughout North America in venues such as The Detroit Institute of Art\, Nuit Blanche in Ottawa\, The Gore Bay Museum\, the Textile Museum of Canada\, The Queen Street Gallery in Niagara on the Lake\, The Brick Room Gallery in St. Cathrines and the Sheepish Grin on Manitoulin Island\, The Elora Fergus Studio Tour\, and is a member of the Octarines Women’s Art Collective that has shown throughout the region. DESCRIPTION:WEAVING TECHNIQUES  |   \nTAPESTRY WITH DIANNE KENNEDY CRUTTENDEN \nSATURDAY\, JUNE 8\, 2024  |  10 AM – 4 PM \nAGES 14+  |  MAX 10  |  $110 + hst  \nJoin textile artist Dianne Kennedy Cruttenden for a full day of learning a variety of tapestry techniques! This workshop is for those weavers who want a review and for new weavers to get started on your tapestry weaving adventure! \nDianne brings her wealth of knowledge and spirit of adventure to this immersive 6-hour workshop. In this playful class you will explore weaving through a variety of tapestry techniques such as: plain weave\, rya knots\, soumack\, eccentric weave and irregular hatching. Participants will learn weaving techniques and some of Dianne’s favourite stitches and tips to create designs while exploring form\, colour and texture. Dianne will have a variety of small looms to show you\, so you may continue your adventure in weaving by building a small loom yourself or purchase from a number of companies a finished loom. \nThe joys of tapestry weaving awaits! \nPlease note there is a $30 kit fee\, payable in cash to Dianne at the start of class. \nYour kit will have a large selection of beautiful yarns to choose from and a simple frame loom\, tapestry bobbins and everything you will need to continue/start your tapestry weaving adventure. \n           \n\nMeet Dianne! \n \nDianne has been creating woven art since the early 1970’s. Dianne first studied weaving at Sheridan School of Design\, apprenticed with Robert L. Kidd in Michigan and in 2015 completed an internship with Master Tapestry artist Maximo Laura in his studio in Lima\, Peru. A lifetime of weaving; Dianne’s work has been shown and collected throughout North America in venues such as The Detroit Institute of Art\, Nuit Blanche in Ottawa\, The Gore Bay Museum\, the Textile Museum of Canada\, The Queen Street Gallery in Niagara on the Lake\, The Brick Room Gallery in St. Cathrines and the Sheepish Grin on Manitoulin Island\, The Elora Fergus Studio Tour\, and is a member of the Octarines Women’s Art Collective that has shown throughout the area. Dianne shows at the Craig Gallery in Meaford\, Ontario and recently won an award for her piece in the recent ‘Insights’ show at the Wellington County Museum and will be participating in the Pelham Art Show in Fonthill over this coming Mothers Day Weekend. \n

Learn how to find your way to clear design in your painting and how to lay down clean colour notes\, akin to the techniques of the Impressionists. \n \nRick will share techniques on composition\, contrast\, depth\, and guide you through the development of precise values. Using a limited palette of warm and cool primary colours\, artists will learn colour-mixing skills to develop their own paintings with depth and contrast. The workshop kicks off with a painting demonstration by Rick on the first morning\, followed by dedicated time for students to work on their own wild garden-inspired masterpieces. \nThis workshop is designed for students seeking to refine their skills. Week 4 will be held on Wednesday\, Oct 30.) \n AGES 14+  |  MAX 12    $180 + hst for all 6 weeks \nOPEN STUDIO with artist Eileen MacArthur is designed for artists who have some experience and would like specific guidance to develop or resolve their artwork. All mediums are welcome in this collaborative and friendly Thursday evening series! \n \nClass will focus on individual and group critiques\, as well as affording the students to opportunity to experiment with various methods and materials if they choose. The working environment will be collaborative and specific exercises will be included for students to develop their critical thinking and studio practice. \nWeek one\, students will start with some warm-up exercises\, make a material list and be asked to shop for their supplies for weeks 2-6. Materials will be provided for week one. \nEileen offers a welcoming and collaborative environment for all skill levels to learn from one another\, while developing their own individual art practice. \nMeet Eileen! \nEileen MacArthur is a practicing artist and arts educator with over 15 years of experience teaching art to adults and children at the Elora Centre for the Arts\, the Guelph School of Art\, Studiohere and the Art Gallery of Guelph. She holds a Master of Fine Art degree from the University of Guelph\, and a Bachelor of Fine Art degree from the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design University. Eileen is inspired by watching artist communities evolve and flourish! Eileen has been an ongoing Arts Educator at the Elora Centre for the Arts as part of our Supportive Arts program for adults with (dis)abilities. She is also our lead Arts Educator for our Youth Outreach program “Connecting to Community Through Art” that supports high school and elementary students in the Learning Resource Students and Life Skills programs\, helping them feel connected to their community through art projects that spark conversation\, awareness and belonging. DESCRIPTION:AGES 14+  |  MAX 12 \n$65 per person + HST  |  All materials provided \nJoin multi-disciplinary artist and Elora-good-egg Peter Skoggard for a playful introduction to chalk pastel! \nPeter has drawn over a thousand pastel self-portraits\, and a further two hundred portraits of local characters over the past 4 years\, so he has learned how to take the fear out of one of the most difficult subjects: the human face! \n \nPeter will begin the class with an introduction to materials with a light-hearted exercise; Draw a zucchini! Draw two marbles! Add cherry tomato cheeks or a red chili pepper mouth\, all on an oval plate! Voila! A face! \nThe remainder of the class\, students will be working from their own source photo using chalk pastels on toned pastel paper to create their own loose and lively portrait or self-portrait. \n\nStudents are asked to bring a source photo for their portrait.\nMirrors are available in the classroom for those who wish to tackle a self-portrait.\n\nAll materials are included and all levels of ability are welcome. \n\nMeet Peter! \n\nPeter is a composer\, poet\, and visual artist living in Elora since 1985. Heather has been woodburning for almost a decade and her passion for creating shows in her unique wood-burned designs using a mix of locally sourced woods and on paper. Working with the lines and patterns inherent to wood and the slow\, immersive process of woodburning\, Heather is drawn to the extensive depth and texture attainable within a medium that is almost sculptural. \nHeather completed her Bachelor of Arts at University of Toronto and Sheridan Institute in Art and Art History where she specialized in Sculpture\, Print Media and Photography. The accumulation of her interests is quite apparent in her work. Her burnings are available in a variety of forms from wall art to functional items such as charcuterie boards\, spoons\, ornaments and more. DESCRIPTION:AGES 16+  |  MAX 12   \n$75 + hst  |  All materials included \nShare some art-love with our furry friends in this playful afternoon of mixed media exploration and collage with artist Eileen MacArthur! Inspired by the Neo-Expressionist work of American pop-culture icon Jean-Michel Basquiat\, we will be using a variety of materials and approaches to explore how artists convey emotions and ideas. This workshop is all about using an abstract painting approach and getting a little messy! No experience necessary! \n \nEileen will guide students in techniques for mark-making and image transfers onto an 8”x10” canvas (provided)\, as well as composition\, and layering. \nPlease bring along colour and/or black and white photocopies of your pets\, in a range of sizes.
