SUMMARY:COMMUNITY CONNECTIONS - Youth Outreach. Connecting to Schools Through Art for elementary & high school students
DESCRIPTION:COMMUNITY CONNECTIONS provides free arts programming to youth with intellectual and/or developmental delays in elementary and secondary school in the Life Skills and LRC classrooms.  We meet students once a month throughout the school year at Centre Wellington District Secondary School\, Elora Public School\, John Black Public School in Fergus\, Arthur Public School\, Victoria Cross Public School in Mount Forest\, and June Ave Public School in Guelph. \nLed by an ECFTA Arts Educator\, these sessions offer guided art instruction and contemporary art ideas to students in Centre and North Wellington. \n \nThe program is free to students.  Project themes are centered around community building and emphasize collaboration and success through personal artistic expression. The goal is connecting students to the community in meaningful and creative ways! \nWhy is this program important? \nStudents with developmental delays experience added challenges in feeling supported within the school system and the broader community. These children and youth also have limited access to arts-based resources within schools due to the continued erosion of arts funding. \nThis program strives to engage the emotional and social well-being of students through art making that connects them with community initiatives\, helping them experience community life beyond school. \nThis project arose in response to teachers of LRC and Life Skills students in our area and aligns with our goal of supporting community needs through the arts. Our goal is that students feel more connected and included in their community through the art-making process! \n\n  \nThe 2019 Vital Signs Report demonstrates the need for this program as follows: \n\nOnly 41% of students feel a sense of belonging to their community through school;\nAccessibility to the arts continues to be a barrier for many;\nYouth mental health is a particular vulnerability; and\nConnection to the community is listed as a preventative factor against suicide.\n\nFunding for this program is made possible thanks to the generosity of the Harry E. Foster Charitable Foundation the Johansen-Larsen Foundation and the Centre Wellington Community Foundation. Thank you! \n  \n\nProgram Insights \nEach year\, we discover that as the year progressed\, students gained an appreciation for each other’s work. The collective art making environment allows the students to locate their individuality within a larger group context in a very direct way by comparing how they resolved their works\, and how their classmates may have made different choices. \nThis form of communication and introspection is unique to collective art-making\, that allows for participants to see themselves in the context of others. DESCRIPTION:SUPPORTIVE ARTS is a unique program offering inclusive\, arts-based learning opportunities and compelling artistic experiences to individuals with varying abilities. We welcome all adults and caregivers from Wellington County and the surrounding areas to our weekly program\, led by ECFTA Arts Educator and Mindfulness Facilitators. \nWednesday & Thursday morning and afternoon classes held weekly September through June at the Art Centre. \n \nJoin us for a gently guided 2-hour workshop\, specifically designed to support adults of all abilities. Each session\, we will embrace diversity and friendship through explorations in art making\, movement\, mindfulness and music. On Thursdays\, we welcome a member of the Elora Singers into the gallery for a music and movement singalong. DESCRIPTION:Our Bursary Program is now CLOSED.  \nWe are  grateful for the opportunity to support families in our community\,. \nAll 2025–2026 funds have been awarded to deserving recipients. \nBursaries are designed to reduce financial barriers to families and assist with fees for workshops\, classes\, and camps to ensure that art participation remain accessible to our community\, regardless of income. \n \n\nBursaries will be distributed on a first-come\, first-served basis\, with priority for first-time applicants-no proof of income is required. \nEach bursary covers up to 50–100% of program costs\, depending on available funding.\nPriority will be given to providing support to as many families as possible in our community.\nThere is a $375 annual limit per child.\nTo apply\, please fill out the FORM below.\nPending approval\, allow for 7 days of submitting your application.\n\n\nFor more information about this program please contact us \n2025–26 BURSARIES FOR CHILDREN & YOUTH are made possible through the generous sponsorship of SKYLINE.

DESCRIPTION:12-WEEK AFTER SCHOOL THURSDAY PROGRAM FOR AGES 10 & UP \nThe Sparrow’s Nest is a gently guided inclusive space to inspire connection and creativity.  \n \nWe believe that a welcoming place away from home and school can grow resourceful and inclusive communities through social connection and creativity. We believe in your kind-hearted Sparrows!​​ \nEach week\, we use repurposed materials to make and create anything that supports the needs and inspiration of each group. Independent and group art project work can flourish here!  No supplies are needed. Home projects/donations of materials are welcomed. Snacks are encouraged for late afternoon hungry bellies. We have Tiger Tea in fancy cups and light snacks for our weekly Sparrow Sofa Chat ~ Caring Check-in. \n  \n\n  \nBURSARIES \nWe understand financial barriers. Please let us know if you need if you need financial assistance for your Sparrow to attend. We will never let finances stop a Sparrow from joining us! Every week is as unique as our participants!  \n \n\nSUPPORTIVE ARTS is a unique program offering arts-based learning opportunities and compelling artistic experiences to individuals with varying abilities. We welcome adults and caregivers from Wellington County and the surrounding areas to our weekly program led by ECFTA Arts Educators and Mindfulness Facilitator. \nOur bright and cheerful ECFTA classroom is wheelchair accessible and accommodates up to 14 participants\, with accompanying support workers and volunteers. \nThe 2025-26 Supportive Arts season is supported by; \n\nWC Wood Foundation\nRotary Club of Fergus/Elora\nThe Township of Centre Wellington\nThe Foot Family Fund\nLindy Green Family Foundation\nMarjorie and Joseph Wright Memorial Foundation\nAnd many generous individual donors from our community\n\nWe thank you! \n\n  \nThere are no REFUNDS for missed classes.
