Japanese Papers – An ancient world full of contemporary possibilities
Sunday November 5, 2017 from 1pm to 3pm
Hands-on Presentation by Nancy Jacobi, President of The Japanese Paper Place in Toronto
~FREE OF CHARGE~
Join Nancy for an inspiring afternoon exploring various types of Japanese paper. Bring your favourite media to try out (pencils, markers, acrylic paint, gouache or pan pastels for example) and get ready for an introduction that may spark a long fascinating new journey! Nancy’s own passionate belief in the creative power of washi (traditional Japanese papers) began many years ago while teaching in Japan. Seeing examples of works by various artists who have successfully and happily engaged with this material will encourage you to find your own way of using the special properties of washi. You will also experience Konnyaku, the wonder starch that will transform these papers into something with even greater potential!
The Japanese Papers presentation will coincide with exciting new offerings at the Pop Up gallery shop at the ECFTA. Directly from the tantalizing shelves of The Japanese Paper Place in Toronto comes an array of natural papers for drawing and painting and limited editions of mixed packages for all kinds of paper pursuits. In the Harris Exchange Gallery from Oct 12th – Nov 12th, 2017.
