This calligraphic hand is a perfect combination of the gothic blackletter and italic. It is a wonderful variation that brings a bit of life to the rigid lines of the blackletter. It may well become your favourite “go to” hand. Registrants should already have some calligraphic experience before embarking on the Gothicized Italic journey. You may continue with your 3.8mm Pilot Parallel Pen or a dip pen with Speedball C2 nib and ink. Worksheets and paper will be supplied for the first class and we will be discussing different paper options that work with our ink. Homework will be assigned weekly for the benefit of practice only. This course includes instruction, demonstrations and fun calligraphic projects, with discussion around tools and best practices.
Supply List: 3.8mm Pilot Parallel Pen (green cap) or dip pen, C2 nib & ink. Also please bring a mechanical pencil & ruler. Additional Parallel Pens can be purchased from the instructor at the first class.
Wendy Hardy is a Guelph based calligrapher and mixed media artist, whose love of lettering began in a high school art class. Having a BA in Literature from the University of Guelph, lettering was a natural progression as an artistic expression of Wendyts love of words. Since 1983, she has continued her calligraphic journey with local and international workshops and instructors. She has been involved with the Royal City Calligraphy Guild for 18 years, 6 of those as president. For several years, she owned and operated Eden Place Village Glass and Gift in Eden Mills, specializing in stained glass. Through her current business, My Personal Scribe, she takes commissions for certificates, poems, quotes and mailings that long for a personal touch. She is excited to help others discover the love of lettering.
