Elora Built: Old Beauty, New Focus is the debut exhibition of local photographer Dan Dunlop that runs September 8 thru October 1st in the Harris Exchange at the ECFTA. The exhibition is a stunning collection of images of the village and surrounding area that highlights the beauty in those familiar landscapes we glide through each day. Dunlop, who grew up in Elora and is now raising his own children here, sees the changes taking place but feels the vibrancy of the community – the people and places that are its unique fabric- remain a constant.  His landscapes focus on the contact zones between the built and natural environment, capturing the charm of Elora without being quaint; mainly monochromatic, his images of bridge and water, stone and steel are flush with an anticipated nostalgia.

A self-taught photographer, Dunlop describes his process as both instinctual and obsessive. This is nowhere more evident than in his images of everyday life in Elora. Influenced by street photography, his portraits of people in public spaces are candid photographic moments captured with a purposeful and emotional gaze. These intimate snapshots will be on display at #LocalsOnly, a night of live music and photo grab in celebration of the community and the launch of the Elora Built exhibition. Come find yourself on the gallery walls and enjoy the music of Broadway Draws and The Bearskins at the ECFTA. Friday September 8th @ 8PM.
