BEGINNER RUG HOOKING WITH MARTINA LESAR
All materials are supplied.
Accomplished rug hooker and instructor Martina Lesar teaches the basic techniques necessary to getting started on creating your own hooked rug. The cost of the class includes wool and a beginner pattern. Hooks and hoops will be supplied with the option to purchase at the end of the session.
HAND EMBELLISHMENT FOR TEXTILES WITH MAGGIE VANDERWEIT
Add another layer of rich detail to your textile art by learning how to create beautiful, contemporary, free-style hand stitching and bead work. Using a wide range of decorative threads and yarns, students will begin by experimenting with new ways of applying strikingly effective embroidery stitches. Students will also be introduced to the fascinating world of beads and learn how to create original designs with bead embroidery. For more information or to register
CHEESECLOTH PORTRAITS WITH MARY PAL
Join Canadian textile artist Mary Pal for this introductory workshop that covers her unique method of manipulating cheesecloth that incorporates “sculpting” and “painting” with fibres. Working from a photograph provided by Mary and employing the use of transparency, you will explore various application techniques and learn the basic skills required to create stunning portraits out of humble cheesecloth. The class covers sculpting, machine appliqué, and two different methods of finishing and mounting to create either a quilted (soft-mounted) or a non-quilted appliquéd portrait (hard-mounted). Create unique wearables that make a statement! Combine various techniques, textures, mediums and colours in new ways. Jen will show you how to pair hooking with other handwork – like beading, embroidery, needle felting, and appliqué – and create your own handmade accessories. She will walk you through the steps to complete at least one Small, but Mighty project – in time for you to wear it home! MACRAME WALL HANGING

Macramé with a modern spin! Create your own beautiful and unique wall hanging and bring texture and life to your space. A new take on an old 70’s fad, macramé wall hangings, plant hangers and more give character and texture to the walls of contemporary and mid-century modern homes. In this workshop, you will learn some basic knots and techniques to create your own 10” x 35” macramé wall hanging made from 3 strand 3/16” (5mm) natural un-dyed cotton. You will leave with a finished wall hanging and a mind filled with inspiration! For more information or to register
BLOCK PRINTING WITH MUNIRA AMIN

In this introductory workshop, students will learn how to print on textiles and paper using beautiful hand-carved wooden blocks. Explore the complexities of repeat patterning and learn to plan and print your own designs using traditional methods. Led by block print artist Munira Amin, students will experiment with different media and will then print a textile table runner as well as papers. A slide presentation showing hand block printing methods as practiced in South Asia will round out the day. For more information or to register
PUNCH NEEDLE WORKSHOP

Punch Needle is a fast and fun method of rug hooking! In this workshop, students will create a small 8″ to 10″ mat that can be used as a trivet, wall hanging, chair pad, or pillow front. There is something for everyone with nearly 20 different patterns and a gorgeous array of mill run and hand dyed wool yarns to choose from. We’ll cover topics such as design, colour planning, how to use a punch needle, plus special tricks and techniques- the teacher will be there to encourage and guide you every step of the way. INTRODUCTION TO INDIGO WITH RACHEL MACHENRY
$20 material fee payable to instructor on day of workshop
Working with natural indigo (no chemical additives or assists), participants will learn how to set up a natural indigo vat and explore a range of resist techniques for patterning including tie, stitch and clamp resists. Bring your own second-hand linen or cotton textiles (white shirt, pillow case, etc) to up-cycle, or use textiles we provide while trying your hand at indigo dyeing using geometric clamp-resist and a variety of wrapping and stitching techniques. KIDS WEAVING WORKSHOP WITH JOHANA CORDERO OF LOOM STUDIO

In this 3-hour class, children will very quickly pick up the art of hand weaving and enjoy the process of making their own creations!
