Black Sheep Festival
January 8th, 2018
Dear Art in the Yard Artists, Volunteers and Patrons,
The ECFTA would like to thank you for 15 years of dedication to Art in the Yard, and let you know that this year we will be moving forward with plans to reshape this beloved annual summer festival. In response to a market saturation in summer art shows in the region, it is with careful consideration that we are narrowing our focus to the fibre arts and will be rebranding AITY as Black Sheep Festival of Contemporary Textile Arts. AITY has been and remains a major source of fundraising for our not-for-profit art centre, and we see this transition as a means of expanding our artist and patron base by focusing on a growing niche market.
In the spirit of Art in the Yard, this festival will remain a community-centred art event. Carrying on the AITY tradition of art, music, food, and children’s activities, the Black Sheep Festival will feature a marketplace with dozens of exhibitors and demonstration tents, a community breakfast, old-time music concert, a petting zoo, and a weekend workshop series. We will of course be calling on our amazing volunteer crew to help with this event over the weekend of July 7 & 8.
The ECFTA will be posting a Call for Submissions very shortly and we look forward to welcoming for consideration new and returning artists working in the genre of textile arts. We thank you all for your past and future participation, and your support for the Elora Centre for the Arts as we embark on this new venture.
